Mobile Contract Upgrade - Good Deal?

Hi,

I am currently on Orange paying £27.50 (£22.50 + 5 for data) p/m for 200 minutes, 250MB data and Unlimited texts. It is time for my upgrade, and I enquired how much it would cost me to upgrade to the recently released Xperia Arc.

The Orange employee said that it would be £169.99 for the handset, and I would stay on the same tariff for another 24 months. It is worth noting, that if you get the tariff I am on now you get data included. The employee said it could not be lower than this, so I said I would wait a bit.

I called Phones 4 U upgrades, which is where I got this current phone from, and they offered the following:

£30 per month for 18 Months
Handset: Free
Unlimited texts
Unlimited data
300 minutes.

I think this represents a good value deal even though I am paying more, I am getting a lot more for my cash and the handset free.

Any thoughts?

Similar airtime costs 18x£10 at chitter chatter on rolling contract. On 12 month contract you can get 900+500+500/unltd for £10 p.m.
You pay 18x£20=£360 for the handset that is £410 sim free at amazon.

Not a bad deal, but I've seen better deals in the past (other phones).

I would get a 18 or 24 month contract for £30, with unlimited everything. Then you dont have to fork out for the phone. Saves you money up front. But make sure you get a phone you are happy with as 2 years is a long time.

Think I'm going to go for it, any more opinions would be welcomed though!
