leeds or bradford to london, sutton-luton,
Hello,
Not sure if this is the right place to put this thread...
I'm looking for some cheap advance tickets from Leeds-London (coach or train) departing on May 11th (weds), returning on May 13th (fri). I've sometimes done this route going Leeds-Man Pic then Man Pic-Eus, sometimes cheaper than getting East Coast Trains! But cant seem to find much reasonable fare atm! Dont have any railcards.
Any advice on fares please?
Also... I'll be travelling between Sutton and Luton Airport Parkway (return) on May 12th (Thursday), departing about 6.30am orso, then departing luton apt parkwy about 2pm. I know first capital connect run this route but do they do any cheap advance singles does anyone know?
A bit of a long post...sorry!
Any advice on best fares would be much appreciated! Thanks

Looks like £5, £6, or £7 each way on your dates.
From Bradford - London, MegabusPlus can be as little as £1 each way (same website).0 -
FCC do not do advance singles.
They did at one time do a £10 a day runabout ticket, but it was offpeak only so no good for you. It's almost certainly gone up0 -
Thanks ever so much wealdroam! I didnt know megabusplus go from bradford-london!! Just got 2x £1 tickets for the outward journey now! Thanks so much!
Just gota sort out my first capital connect train from sutton common-luton airport parkway now! Or I might go via underground to central london then get a fast train out of London to Luton airport. That may work out cheaper. Anytime day rtn on FCC was about £21 pp. I do have an Oyster card so may work out cheaper via underground then national rail.0 -
Can you get to York, and if 7pm from York on the Wednesday is oaky, and returning at 8am on the Friday is okay, then it's £15 each way by paying on board the Grand Central train (no need to book in advance).Hello,

If you don't mind taking a slow train and hopping in/out at Elstree & Borehamwood station, Pay As You Go off peak single is £3.20 from Sutton to Elstree & Borehamwood (£5.20 peak), and a return from Elstree & Borehamwood to Luton is £11.00 off peak day return. This would obviously extend the journey time though.
This compares with £19.50 for the through ticket if you leave after 0930, or a whopping £29.20 before 0930.0 -

Yorkie, where did you get those fares from, on the East Coast website they come up as Sutton to Elstree & Borehamwood £5.50 Anytime Single (No Off Peak Single) and a £8 Off Peak day return* and Elstree & Borehamwood to Luton Airport is £12.50 off peak day return.
*It would have to be a return as the OP has stated he wants to come back the same day and most probably a Peak Ticket as he wants to travel around 06:30 am.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Avantix Traveller, but you can get them on the TfL single fares finder.Livingthedream wrote: »Yorkie, where did you get those fares from,
East Coast don't give PAYG fares; the OP mentioned using Oyster PAYG so I gave the fares.Livingthedream wrote: »on the East Coast website they come up as Sutton to Elstree & Borehamwood £5.50 Anytime Single (No Off Peak Single) and a £8 Off Peak day return*
The £8 ticket will be an Off Peak Travelcard.
I've had a look at the EC website, and bizarrely it gives me the Off Peak Day Return (CDR) fare from ELS to LTN (or LUT) as £10.00. Yet Avantix Traveller shows the CDR fare as £11.00. I can't find a £12.50 fare. I can offer no explanation as to this discrepancy. They both agree that the SDR fare is £13.90, however.Livingthedream wrote: »and Elstree & Borehamwood to Luton Airport is £12.50 off peak day return.
PAYG is available as singles only, and if the OP touches in before 0630, they can still take the 0634 train, and yet pay the Off Peak rateLivingthedream wrote: »*It would have to be a return as the OP has stated he wants to come back the same day and most probably a Peak Ticket as he wants to travel around 06:30 am.
At Elstree & Borehamwood, there is a requirement to touch out... even if you already have purchased a paper ticket from there in advance, I don't know where the readers are but you may struggle to get back on the same train. However this isn't a problem in this case; that train arrives at Elstree & Borehamwood at 0740, and the next train is at 0750. A further change is required at St Albans to get on a train to Luton Airport Parkway.0 -

I missed the part the OP stated he had an Oyster card, should read the whole thread.I've had a look at the EC website, and bizarrely it gives me the Off Peak Day Return (CDR) fare from ELS to LTN (or LUT) as £10.00. The £12.50 fare is the fare from Elstree & Borehamwood to Luton Airport, which includes the Shuttle bus from Luton Airport Parkway to the Airport itself. At Elstree & Borehamwood, there is a requirement to touch out... even if you already have purchased a paper ticket from there in advance, I don't know where the readers are but you may struggle to get back on the same train. A good bit of advice, as if you don't tap out then its the maximum Oyster fare.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Thanks, I think for the sutton to luton I may aswel get an anytime day return...although I'm not a big fan of those ticket types ha! For example when I've been to uni in Liverpool, some of the routes around there they've taken away the off-peak tickets and now they're the same price as the anytime tickets!! Not best!0

I booked the Bradford-London ticket ok but still looking for trains or coach out of London going to Leeds or Bradford next Friday afternoon, leaving about 5/6pm orso. Best I've found is £8.50 +50p booking fee with National Express leaving at 1700hrs. Any cheaper fares about like?
Thanks0
