Sky Anytime+

I phoned SKY yesterday and asked them to active SKY Anytime+ but they said as I didn't have SKY broadband, the system wouldn't allow the activation.

After being a customer for nearly ten years now and paying £60 plus a month to SKY, I personally think that's so very very weak.

I think we all know it isn't impossible to connect over any broadband connection to the SKY library and download films.

BTW - I have a Vodafone broadband connection which is very fast, extremely reliable and guess what, BT supply the line. i.e. It's basically the same connection as SKY broadband but with a different label.

Would anyone like to comment\agree\disagree with this???

Cheers and I hope you are all enjoying the return of the sun. Whooo hooooo

Its not a public service its a business.
If its an issue vote with your feet.
  • At present it is limited to Sky broadband customers only. It is a free service as a bonus for their broadband customers. Sky have said they may open the service to customers of other ISPs in future but whether those ISPs will allow their customers to connect using their bandwidth is a totally different matter. There have already been reports (unknown whether true or not) that Virgin will not be allowing it on their service.

Besides the above the service has only just been officially launched and it makes perfect sense that until the service is well established and all the bugs and problems have been ironed out that the service is limited to their own network where they will not have the problem of blame not being accepted for problems by other ISPs.

You can also take the view that it is being used as a promotional tool for their own broadband service intially - which is perfectly acceptable as they are a business and NOT a "not for profit organisation". Compare also that Virgin restrict their VOD service to their own broadband customers, BT Vision do the same as well as Talk Talk - so where are the complaints about those being restrictive practices.

As stated above if you don't like it vote with your wallet and change suppliers.
