New Logmaker !

  • I just bought one of the paper log makers from a website I found online called The galloway ecostore -price £19.99 and they have an offer on of free delivery at the moment so was the best deal I could find. The logs are quite easy to make but we got the kids involved & enjoyed the whole process. Going to make as many as time allows to get them dry before winter -probably save a fortune
  • Perhaps not for everyone but definately for those who want to recycle and use less wood, it's basically free fuel. Briquette or wet paper logmakers work better. The 'log' I used in my fire last night burnt for about an hour, yes you may have to clean out the ash more often but it's worth it not to see your wood supply diminish so quickly.

Greenstamp have the cheapest range out there.

There is now a new wet and dry logmaker available that you can use as a leaf logmaker so it works in the same way but gives longer lasting 'logs' and leaves less ash. Just put wet & dry logmaker in google to see it

I am thinking of getting rid of our coal fire only just moved house with one in, but despite our best efforts even win coal or logs theres hardly any warmth. Glad I never bought a log maker now I would be cheesed off spending all that dosh for something that doesnt work very well

On a look out for a living flame fire for our fireplace as we have a fairly new fireplace/coal fire. I loved my old living flame fire cheap to run and bags of heat

You can buy living flame inserts for existing coal fires you know? Probably depends on the grate size and shape but I was thinking of getting one for a cat iron insert I have in a bedroom.

  • I have ordered one of these log makers but it hasn't arrived yet. I didn't see this post so hope I am not too dissapointed when it does come.

I didn't realize how many tea bags we used until today and was wondering if these can be put into log maker, I think they will be excellent to burn - has anyone tried it?

I have just ordered one of these wet log makers and as I already shred any and all paperwork with my personal details on I figure I could also use this shredded paper in the log maker.

  • I have a wet log maker (a real housewarming present from a friend!) - I use all my shredded paper and have everyone I know saving newspapers for me.

Bit of effort but well worth it for the free fuel...you just need to be organised! I find a dried-out log will last about 1.5 hours on my woodburner after I've burned a couple of real logs - it throws out enough heat for me and anyway I have the rosy glow from knowing that it's cost me nothing!

The other option is to loiter down at the local dump and wait until someone turns up with a boot load of chopped down tree.... surprising how often I find free wood down there! :D

  • Some council dumps wont allow you to take things away

You then need suitable vehicle to take away the chopped tree. Cut it to adequate pieces then store for next year until its seasoned
