Sale Price Change - Deposit

Wanting to secure the best price for a sofa, I rang various branches of a furniture store and eventually made a deposit to secure a price, but asked for the order to be held until I could visit the store and check the details of the layout of a corner sofa. I am now unable to secure the funds for the remainder of the cost of the sofa. Can you tell me if I am entitled to a refund?

uhhhh reasearch then play deposit, not reserve and decide. You shouldn't be entitled to a refund.0

Deposits are not usually just a "bagsies", they are the first payment towards the item. Putting down a deposit is telling the seller "I am buying this, and here is a token towards it - so don't sell it to anyone else!". The seller may have had 10 offers for the sofa that they turned down as you had said you were buying it - this is why deposits are usually non-refundable. That said, it will depend on the store's terms, you can always ask. They may, for instance, allow you to transfer the deposit onto another sofa in their shop as a goodwill act.0

Talk to the shop instead of posting on here. They maybe quite helpful and let you transfer to another item. If not then you'll loose the deposit.
It's same as booking a holiday, you put down a deposit but if you cancel you'll loose it.0 -
Last bank holiday monday, a corner sofa was on sale 'For The Bank Holiday Weekend' for £1499, and advertised that after the 'Sale', the price would revert to '£2999'. I negotiated the price and made a deposit of £150, to secure a price of £1485 to include a 5-year guarantee, cover against stains, and defects with recliners.
Yesterday - just four days later - the price has been reduced by 15%, a further £225!
Am I entitled to ask for the further discount, or at least a refund of my deposit, under the Misrepresentation Act 1967, as I feel I was induced into entering into the contract under false pretences?0 -
You can ask, but you are certainly not entitled to itOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

If the price had gone up a further £225 would you be offering to add this to the sale price you origionally agreed?
You can always ask, but my guess would be that you would not get very far.

Thanks for your reply halibut2209, but can you clarify your answer with regard to misrepresentation?0

Thanks for your reply Domino9, but my question is whether I have a right to cancel the contract, given that I entered into it under a misrepresentation by the seller? If the price had gone up a further £225 would you be offering to add this to the sale price you origionally agreed?
You can always ask, but my guess would be that you would not get very far.

Have you just changed your mind? Why two different posts on the same subject?0 -
Is the 5 year guarantee and additional cover included in the new sale price?
As sometimes they get you with a low price then sell you cover which can run into a couple of hundred quid (atleast that was my experience with CSL).0
