The one Acer provides (AMD/ATi?) is for the specific hardware inside your computer; the one you already have installed is likely a generic driver without hardware acceleration support.

Thanks for your help folks. Can one of you nice people point me in the right direction as to how I upgrade my graphics drivers please. I have an Acer 5536 if that is any help. I posted about this a while ago and someone told gave me some advice on my drivers and I did download something then but it obviously didn't make much difference so any new advice would be good.
You start by going to the manufacturers website of your hardware (in this case, Acer), and you download and install all of the available drivers (and some software utilities) if you want your machine to work as Acer intended.

  • Thanks I have downloaded the VGA driver as suggested and will do the rest tomorrow all being well. Hopefully my sanity will be restored over this before it goes through the window. Just a quick question how will I know what is available, will there be symbols next to them or do I just work my way down a list?

If you put the correct details in that relate to your machine, whatever is meant to be will be in the list of available downloads.

Note there may be downloads that are not applicable to your machine, what is applicable only matters as to what hardware you have available to start with.

^^^^ and generally it'll be the latest-dated one if there are more than one for your model.....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Yes I think so, but how would I check? I did the one for Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic x 32 but to be honest that might as well be Japanese!!

Press [Super]+[Pause/Break] on your keyboard. Note: the first one is more commonly called the 'Windows' key because of the picture printed on it.

Thanks it says Windows Vista Home Premium but do I do x32 or x64 although a bit further down it says 32 bit operating system so I am guessing x32!
