Mu heart bleeds for you two weekks eh?...Count yourself lucky I'm with Supanet who don't issue MAC codes at all ! (changed rules quietly six months ago)..The only way of leaving them is to be without a broadband connection whilst BT clear the line ..can take four to six weeks!
Anyone thinking of joining Supanet read the above!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -

As an ISP we're trying to put pressure on OFCOM to enforce the code. I believe that this kind of pressure would be better if it came from consumers who are with an ISP that have signed the code and are now having trouble getting a MAC. If I were OFCOM I would be furious that an ISP would be using the positive publicity of agreeing to the code but then not abiding by it.
OFCOM has been looking at making this code mandatory and this does appear to be the way forward.
Kind regards,

Sounds about right. It would be in the best interest of all ISP's if the code was enforced, and would stimulate competition. That way an ISP cannot prevent a user from wanting to leave their service and join a different one.
What I can't believe however how long it takes to remove an ADSL marker/tag on a line if you do need to change suppliers or move house. I was quoted a minimum of 10 working (yes, thats working days boys and girls) by Talk Talk. This was despite the previous owner of my house also being on Talk Talk for broadband.
However, the technology needs to rapidly improve to meet customer demand and expectations. Its not enough that the distance you live from a digital exchange, or whether an exchange has been converted should be a factor. Areas that really need broadband access, such as rural areas are still suffering through a lack of access or only moderate speeds. Still, the UK is still the most broadband savvy of all the European nations."Whose the more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows him?" - Obi Wan Kenobi

That is good news. I wonder how it will be enforced, and how quickly the ISP's will recognise what their obligations are. I wonder if this also means an end to excessive 'disconnection fees', or will ISP's try to recoup their losses by rebranding them as admin charges, or increasing the cost of monthly bills or setup fees. If they try and do that, the consumers will walk with their feet. Still, its a good decision by OFCOM.

Surprise surprise, Tiscali are also !!!!!! at providing MAC codes. I requested mine 3 weeks ago and have chased it a number of times to no avail. Why I though Tiscali would make anything easy I don't know, everything they do stinks. Stopped my direct debit though, so currently getting free braodband and they will never get another penny from me.0
