Speed Hoe

Has anyone bought or tried the speed hoe... It looks pretty futuristic but is it any good? Has anyone got it cheaper? Yes, I know you get what you pay for but I don't want to pay a lot for something I have never tried.... and might end up at the back of the shed... The one I've got is 25 - 35 years old and it is an old friend.... but I'm getting old as well and if this new one does the job quicker, I might consider it... I've included a link from the internet just in case anyone wants to know what I am talking about...

I await your replies...:)

Never seen them ans it doesnt look so great even on the promotional video

Personally i only use a fork at the allotment - use it to turn soil over at start of the year and then just run down the rows with it and it keep the weeds at bay

Didn't really look any different to a std hoe to me. Get a Swoe, brilliant.

I must be getting old... I have never heard of a Swoe... so I have looked it up on the internet and it looks just like what I would call a draw hoe (for earthing up the potatoes)... I think the one I have used for years is a dutch hoe..... and, like Gazza's post above, I use my fork to get most of the weeds out... and I use it as a rake as well....

Thanks for your replies... I already thought it was something gimmicky... that's why I posted....

    Cheers

No - a draw hoe is a draw hoe, a swoe is a swoe. Der!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

am thinking about this - http://www.crocus.co.uk/product/_/tools/garden-tools/de-wit-cape-cod-weeder/classid.2000009949/ The De Wit Cape Cod Weeder. Pricey, I know but it's been recommended a lot by some garden bloggers... anyone care to comment? looks like the biz, doesn't it? with all the weeds that keep coming up on the lotti, I'm forever using the side of my trowel to scrape/cut the seedlings away, but sadly, the tool isn't very sharp tho'...

Hi, I saw something similar in either Aldi's or Lidl's. It wasn't expensive, it was a couple of pounds... It was an angled shaped piece of metal with a handle. It was great for getting the weeds out between slabs etc... I've been keeping an eye out for them coming back in this year, but Aldi isn't near us so I might have missed it... If you see them, get a couple as they would only last a season... I'm using an old steak knife at the moment... not as good though. This is a picture of the tool I am talking about. (I haven't done a proper search.....)

I have a Speedhoe and I absolutely love it. So much quicker, it has really helped me to keep on top of the weeds. Well worth the money IMHO.

I used a Speed Hoe for a while (it was a customers) and found it worked well on good soil, but was hard work on rough soil. After a while I swapped back to my Dutch hoe, which works with a wider range of soil conditions and is easier to sharpen.

For close up work around plants I find a patio knife to be an excellent all round tool.

I bought a cheap one of those from B&Q, just to try out, as the weeds down the sides of my raised beds in between the slabs are a pain.
And it's brilliant! I love it, not sure how long it will last and I need another one I can use standing up ideally, but it is great.
