ICESAVE Account

MiserlyMartin wrote:Whats the problem with not being able to 'push' money to them? Is it slower via direct debit and extra lost interest? I have an Icesave account and its now paying more then my Yorkshire e saver (5.10%) No word from Yorkshire on a move in rates so would it be worth moving it (18K) to Icesave, or is it too early after the rate rise to speculate?
If a company is able to do direct debit quickly and efficiently, it is better than "pushing money" as the money leaves one account and arrives in the other account both the same day, whereas normal bacs payments take 2-4 working days. The direct debit mandate has to be set up both ends and I think it takes a minimum of one working day notice though, so it's obviously a little less flexible.
There's a link on the moneyfacts website that implies Yorkshire may not be putting their rates up, but I'm leaving it a while to see. I would wait until IceSave gets your direct debit set up, then see what it looks like then.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -

Hi. I'm having the same problem, I pushed the initial deposit into the account but there is no option to pull more funds in. The account was opened late in October but they don't seem to have set up the direct debit yet, they have not replied to my email, so still with trusty ICICI!0

On mine I can see the Direct Debit is set up as it also shows at your nominated account end. When I look at Standing Orders / Direct Debits at that account I can see the one from Icesave in my listing.0

Now I don't want to be patronising because all of the following is fairly obvious stuff really, but only once you have successfully got into the Icesave account and actually 'done it'.
However, if you haven't, here is roughly what you do and what actually is supposed to happen:-
Having 'logged in' to an Icesave account, one would click on the option, indicated at the LHS of the account's web page, entitled 'Make a Transaction'. Then you can either
1. Push funds out of the Icesave into the linked current account
Here you first select 'From' the Icesave account concerned (you might have just your own or you could have two, the other one being one which you share with someone else, such as your wife). you would ignore the linked current account at this stage because you are going to withdraw funds and this bit of the transaction is the 'FROM' bit.
Next you would select 'TO' and this woud be the linked current account, which you would have already seen indicated in the selction box.
or
2. Pull funds in from the linked current account into the Icesave account.
Here you select 'From' and choose the linked current account in the selector box.
Next, you select which of the appropriate Icesave accounts you require, (ie. yours or the one you share with her indoors) for the 'TO' bit of the transaction.
The following are the pertinent instructions taken from the Iceave FAQs:-
How do I pay money into my account?
The account will primarily be operated online and additional cheque deposits by post will not normally be accepted.
The initial sum that you pay into your account can be paid by cheque (made payable to all applicants for the new account, followed by the reference number generated once you have applied, e.g. Mrs LA Wells 00001234WEL) or by BACS or CHAPS transfer (your bank may charge you a fee for making a payment by CHAPS transfer). Afterwards, you must use a Direct Debit to add funds to your account. Using the website you log in at https://online.icesave.co.uk/ofis/login.aspx and then simply instruct us how much money to collect from your nominated personal UK bank or building society account. Please note that we cannot accept funds from an account that is not in the name of at least one of the applicants for an account and that the account must be your personal account and not a business account.
Can I save a regular amount into my account?
It is possible to save money on a regular monthly, quarterly or annual basis. To do this you should select the regular savings option when you specify the amount you wish to place in your account. We will do the rest!
How do I withdraw money from my account?
To withdraw money from your account, simply visit the website (please make sure you have your user name, memorable data and password to hand). There is no limit to the number of withdrawals you can make.
We will usually send the money to you by BACS to your nominated personal UK bank account. This usually takes 4 working days (or, if you tell us by 11am the transfer will happen in 3 working days).
If you need the money urgently, we can send it to your account by CHAPS electronic transfer (if you tell us by midday the transfer will happen on that day) but a fee will be charged for this service - please see the Tariff of Charges on the website.0 -
OK Folks - Finally found the answer. To select an account to pay money IN to the ISESAVE account:-
1 Log in to your account as normal
2 Go to change details
3 Go to change personal details
4 Scroll down and select Print Direct Debit Instruction
5 Open the PDF document
6 Print the instruction and complete it with a ball point pen
7 Post to the ICESAVE address on the form.
NB: The account(s) you list to take money FROM to transfer TO your ICESAVE account is NOT the same as your NOMINATED bank account under the Make a transaction section of the site. You can of course print the Direct Debit instruction to pay money TO your account and you can have up to 4 nominated accounts to transfer money FROM your ICESAVE account.
Phew! :j :j :jMoney is not the root of all evil - Money-wasting is!;)0 -
I am currently transfering money From my nominated bank account set up when I made my application for icesave. In my case this WAS the account shown in the "Make a Transaction" section.
I only have 2 accounts to select in this section
1) my icesave account
2) my nominated bank account for which a direct debit was set up as part of the application process online.
These appear to be working for me as the transaction made yesterday is showing on my icesave account as a future transaction and processing. The money should arrive in my icesave account on Wed 6 Dec.Regards
