    What's the product?

I can't believe that you can't find it elsewhere at a similar price.

As said the debate about DSR on beds and mattresses continues, is it worth the hassle.

Name the product and I'll look into it and see if it IS a real bargain or not.

I have tried two mattresses out in Dreams which are essentially the same, both are made by Slumberland, called Penzance and Whitby. These are made exclusively for Dreams and are 1200 pocket spring mattresses with a layer of memory foam. Looking on the Slumberland website they only have one 1200 pocket spring mattresses with a layer of memory foam called Matrix.

I can't see the company making a specific mattress solely for Dreams rather they re-brand or rename one of their regular mattresses. bedsdirect247.co.uk describe the matrix as "The Matix Memory Mattress, also known as the Dreams Penzance Mattress as an equivalent model".

The Whitby is available today in my local Dreams store at £699 on the sleeptogo.co.uk website the matrix (Kingsize) is £308.76

Dreams have over 220 stores, that's enough buying power to have it exclusively for Dreams.

Agreed but surely they would re-brand or rename one of their regular mattresses

Yes very much so, but by having their own name put on it they can vastly increase their margins on it as it can't be price checked elswhere. Good detective work.

I have now received the mattress from sleeptogo.co.uk. It turns out that I can't tell the difference between Dreams Penzance/Whitby or the slumberland matrix apart from some different colour in the mattress cover also it has 2 more years guarantee and I saved a big pile of money:-) In my opinion it seems to me that Dreams have some shoddy sales tactics

What, selling products to make a profit?

Dreams have the expenses of running those 220 stores to pay for. How do you expect them to cover that except by being more expensive than online retailers?

I know this is a money saving website, but are we not running the risk of losing the high street all together? Apart from all the big supermarkets, soon we'll have no shops what so ever, as customers are favouring savings made online to touching and feeling the product instore.

Then maybe the high street retailers need to think about that? There is no doubting that their overheads are higher, but the likes of Dreams are massively overpriced, even compared to smaller bed retailers that do not have their buying power.
    Gone ... or have I?

The bed I wanted to purchased last year in Dreams was £699, in a small local bed store I paid £399. Same bed, same frame. It was delivered and fixed up the following day.

If my recent experience is anything to go by the Matrix did not appear to be the Whitby re-branded. It felt less firm than the Whitby so I've held off purchasing it.

Has anyone an idea where I could source the Whitby at a cost less than Dre*$ms charge?
