You only pay the excess if you're getting the damage repaired under your own comprehensive cover before its settled. You then claim against the third parties insurance for the excess.0

We did ring local bobby office on day and got an incident number - they said to "let them know" if he supplies his details. I dont have the reg but hve the incident number - might just ring police back and say he's refusing to give me details
You didn't make a note of the registration number at the time? :eek:The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

All of that depends on a successful claim against the other party. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Forgive me if this is wrong, but if someone scrapes a bit of paint off someone's mirror in a car park, by opening the door, can they really be done for failing to report an RTC? Is that not a bit excessive?
No, it isn't excessive at all. If someone scratches your car, it can cost a pretty penny to put right. If a driver scarpers without exchanging details, that is an offence, punishable by up to six months in prison (obvioulsy for the worse cases).
We had both sides of our lovely, spotless wee car scraped and dented by drivers who drove off in 2 different car parks. Both within a few weeks. Sickening. Couldn't get anywhere when we reported it to security as there were no witnesses.
If no one saw it happen and no details were recorded, then sorry, c'est la vie. If on the other hand, someone did see it and details were recorded, then they could have been charged with the above.
Was there no CCTV footage of the incidents? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I think (need to check) OH took pictures of other car so it may be on there.
