Wow sorry DIDNT realise it was soooo important in these THREADS.....thought maybe the point of these THREADS was to get some help, not for people to critisize the way i type...:)0

Thing is, people make assumptions about other people based on their general literacy skills. I'm fully prepared to believe it's a generational thing but whenever I see poor punctuation, bad grammar and lazy spelling, I assume that person's a bit thick. Seeing as you're about to embark on a career as a doctor I can only assume you're not in the least thick. But that's how you come across if you can't punctuate properly. And I don't want to think my doctor's thick. I'd want to feel that I was in safe hands. But if they can barely string a written sentence together then it's not going to inspire me with much confidence.
Please don't stick LOL! or a smiley on your prescriptions. Everyone over the age of 35 will pass out."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
ok I didnt realise there is a code as to what I can or cant do in posts when it comes to putting polite things in it....
maybe you could point out where it states no faces?
Dont you think you are over reacting a bit? firsty patients will see me for how I diagnose and treat things, not how I write things down.
Also thats up to you if you want to be so judgemental, but when i post on here, i do it in good faith that people will reply to the question I am asking and not sit and judge how I type...
Seriously man/woman/dude, listen to the doctor. Getting so worked up by things like this really isnt good for the bp!:)
I just hope that you never make a mistake in anything and have someone judging you like you are currently doing.;)0 -

Hiya,
I think the problem is that most people do not speak in text speak, and indeed there are people whose first language is not English, who find poor English quite opaque. As such, it is generally good manners when speaking to strangers to make the effort to punctuate and spell well. Rather, if in a public forum a person posts lazily, it looks as if they don't value or respect the other members enough to make an effort, and that is what rankles people.0 -
I'm convinced it's an education thing. There's a whole generation of people who simply don't see good written communication as important. No doubt it's due to the policy of 'comprehension is key' and the sidelining of grammar, punctuation and spelling as taught subjects. Provided someone understood and could express themselves adequately then how they did so was unimportant. Teachers were encouraged to award points for ideas and understanding (rightly so) and ignore errors (not rightly so, IMO). Problem is it makes you look thick! I can't help make that assumption. I know it seems judgemental but I have been very careful to say (twice) that I fully expect you're not stupid. But that's how you come across! It's ingrained in someone who's been taught that good communication skills are important, just as it's probably ingrained in you that it doesn't matter."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I can't read doctors' writing, so I have no idea how literate they are.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

So how do I put an apostrophie in can't when I am speaking to someone?
How can I let them know I am spelling my words correctly?0 -
wow fluffnutter,
so far I have just laughed off your comments but you dont come across as a nice person!:(
How do you know if it "has been just ingrained in me that communication doesn't matter"
I personally think you are very arrogant to sit and judge other people whether it is me or anyone else!:(
Stop thinking that you are so superior to other people and that you have the right to tell people all the things you have said!
Seriously Get a life!
There are more important things to worry and complain about.:)
Paddrg my post was in response to fluffnutter saying I shouldnt use faces? what gives her/him the right to tell me what I cant do?:)0 -

In my school, if I started a sentence with "And" I would have had to rewrite the sentence 10 different ways without using and.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0
