full medical required?

Hi Guys,

Im looking for a bit of advice.

I am about to start working as a dr in august and decided to take up pay protection which means that if i cant work my wage will be covered.

The thing is I am healthy but overweight.

Now they have arranged an appointment to do a quick/full medical for a detailed history, urine dipsticking and measurements.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this normal? it just seems very strange.

thanks loads

They're probably just checking you are healthy at this moment in time. Did you have to fill in your height/weight details on the application...if you did perhaps they have noticed you are overweight and want to check your health.

perfectly normal, if you are wanting insurance because you can't work they are going to make sure you are fit and healthy. They wouldn't want to insure someone on deaths door now would they.

yeah they asked me to put down my weight which i did. Its just other people I spoke to havent been asked so I was a bit worried that they want all this. I mean as far as im aware there shouldnt be anything wrong with me so I shouldnt worry but I still am slightly.....

I see what you mean about the making sure bit. it just worried me that I was the only one getting asked out of a lot of people (as far as im aware)

It'll not be an in depth medical. It'll be little more than stethoscope, blood pressure, urine dipstick and if you are a bloke you may be grasped and told to cough! Insurance is all about risk, they'll have realised your overweight and want to get you checked out....it's no big deal really. By dr do you mean Doctor?

thanks loads everyone. Just when they say we need to do some tests you just think....oh crap.

Thats exactly what they said when I asked about what they would do. BP weight, dipstick and a family history. she said its hould take no more than 40 mins in total....

yeah sorry, im already bad with stuff like that. yeah meant doctor

As a Doctor you know how being overweight can impact on someone's health....the insurance companies know this too!

...now perhaps...but 10, 20, 30 years down the line? I've always been overweight. I can name more doctors than I've had GP appointments...didn't prevent me having a heart attack last November unfortunately.

I do sympathise about the weight thing...could it be a wake up call?

What speciality are you going for?
