Interest free credit card for BFPO address

Hi,
can anyone help?? Im a soldier currently serving in Germany at a British Forces Post Office (BFPO) address, so far I've failed to get aN Interest free credit card because they keep saying that I need a UK address. We are always told that a BFPO address is a UK address.

    Right forget that,
next leave take your mum or dad along to the bank and they will become a garantor(is that spelt correctly)? This involves you being completely trustworthy towards your parents and not missing a payment or going overdrawn easier said than done in the Army.Never Never have anything to do with the NAAFI finacially as they will always report you to your CO.
With the internet you should be able to manage your direct debits and balance transfers .
Lloyds and Barclays are willing to accept this arrangement and they accept your parents address as the credit card holders address for correspondence so you should be okay.
It worked for me back in the 80's ,so good luck.
welcome to mse tell all your mates this is the place to save and to get money savvey for leaving the army as the army will not tell you what you need to know or how to get by..

We got a Barclaycard about 25 years ago with a BFPO address.

You might have to do it at a UK bank which has a branch in Germany. Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Dortmund and Hannover had branches for the civilians. Some of the larger camps had representatives there as well. But now with all the cutbacks you might have to do it the old fashioned way of a paper based application. Write to them asking for an application form, also give them your last 3 years UK address history so that they can check to get a credit report on you.

I would write to barclays at their offshore address on Isle of Man:

    Isle of Man

    International Personal Banking:

    Bank mailing address:

    Barclays Private Clients International Limited
    International Personal Banking
    P.O. Box 9
    Barclays House
    Douglas
    Isle of Man
    IM99 1AJ

    Phone number: + 44 (0) 1624 684 000

    Fax number: + 44 (0) 1624 684 321

    E-mail: IOM@internationalbanking.barclays.com

Or write to their branch in Germany:

    Barclaycard
    Barclays Bank PLC
    Albert-Einstein-Ring 3
    22761 Hamburg

Your commanding officer might have to write you a letter depending on your rank to state your salary.

Do not involve any part of the army establishment ie CO,RSM ,NAAFI in your finacial affairs if you do and say by accident you go overdrawn one month by a tenner they(the bank) will be reporting it straight to the CO,RSM etc and you will then be charged and fined several hundred pounds as I am sure you know.
KEEP THE ARMY AWAY FROM YOUR MONEY!
    good luck,
the Isle of Man post sounds good.
A colleage of mine had twenty years experience he was a sargeant in the Royal Engineers and wanted to buy a washing machine from Comet(I think it was)as he wanted it on credit they wouldn't sell it to him until the OC had authorised it,he was later charged as he had not payed it off within the three month period and was technically in debt.
Be careful they will screw you over.
