thanks kerri may i ask for a bit more info about this freecycle a lot of posters mention it how does it work and what sort of things are ok oh and do i have to join or what thanks for the suggestion and sorry for the questions

The idea of Freecycle is basically to keep unwanted items out of landfill. You can 'Offer' an item you no longer want, people will email if they are interested in it and then you arrange directly with that person a suitable time for them to collect.

You can also place a 'Wanted' if you are looking for a specific item (I obtained some tomato plants this week by doing that) if someone sees your 'wanted' request and they have the item then they will email you, and likewise, you arrange with them a suitable time to collect it.

You have to offer at least one item before you can place a wanted.

The organisation is split into local groups - so you join the group that is most local to you.

Some groups are now named Freegle rather than Freecycle - I am not sure of the exact ins and outs of why this is, something to do with the Freecycle org in the USA (which the UK originated out of I believe) but Freegle and Freecycle do the same thing.

Lots of things go on there, clothes, furniture, household items, kitchen items, garden items, sadly some pets have been posted on occasion (which I thought wasn't allowed but apparently it is), bikes, and i think I have seen a car or two.

Some people make silly requests - such as 'wanted brand new BMW 4x4' I wonder if they get any success :rotfl:

If you have a search through the forums there are some threads on here about it. Also here's the link to Freecycle - it covers pretty much what I said and prob more

    http://www.uk.freecycle.org/

Feel free to ask any additional questions :)

Another NSDs for me yesterday, taking me up to no 14. No NSD today unfortunately, had to visit my favourite place in the world and stock up the cupboards.:(

Off to update the front page now, so see you all tomorrow.

    Good morning all!

Well I am home from our little holiday! We really enjoyed the break, pity that the weather was lousy but hey-ho!
We still have a a few days until OH starts back on Monday, which is nice, so we will have a couple of days out. For once we have come back with quite a bit of our spendies.......we didnt scrimp but seemed to be a bit more discriminating about what we spent on. Looks like we've developed some healthy spending habits after all!:rotfl::rotfl:
I am off all next week too, so I am having a good break!

That was a good result with your car Nargle, its such a relief when it turns out to be a "minor ailment".
MM7 - hope you get sorted with Freecycle. I've used it quite a bit and got rid of a lot of stuff. Things you think nobody would want are usually snapped up! Just some of the things we've got rid of include a pile of old slabs, which would have cost us a fortune for the council to uplift, bags of old gardening mags were picked up by a teacher for the kids to cut out pictures for a project, an old hoover ( for parts). Like Kerri, I like the thought of the stuff not going to landfill and if someone can get a use of the stuff then I'm happy!;)

    Have a lovely day everyone:)

you will always be rich enough to be generous.

:wave:Morning Spoonie, hope all well with you in spoonland.

Popping in with another nsd so that brings me up to 8.
Pleased with myself. Going to pop out this morning to post ebay and for what I need over the weekend, might as well kill 2 birds with the one stone as so to speak.:p
NO point going back into town tomorrow. So I am hoping for fri, sat and sund to be nsds....I can hope:)

    Best wishes to all.
    God bless:A
