TV Licence - Paying by monthly installments

Hi
This is just a general query regarding paying TV Licence by installments as it will allow me to plan what I can and cannot do in a few months time.
I am currently paying TV licence by monthly direct debit and for the first 6 months I am paying £24 (approx.) a month between Feb 2011 and July 2011. This will therefore cover the licence fee for the first year.
the TV licencing website states the following:
"You'll usually pay for your first licence within six months, in instalments of around £24 per month. (If we have to spread the cost into four or five monthly instalments, the cost may be slightly higher). From then on, you pay for your licences in 12 monthly instalments of just over £12 - six before your licence is due and six after."
At the end of July 2011 I want to revert back to paying the annual fee. Am I right in assuming that if I contact Licensing people at the end of July, I will be refunded £72 approx. (£12 x 6 months) and then pay the annual fee of £144 approx. Therefore the annual fee will cost half the price for the year, by getting back some of the money I have effectively lost out on by paying double in the first 6 months.
Thanks

Almost 100% certain that they won't refund you anything but you can stop DD after last ~ £24 payment is taken (very important -tell them why you are stopping payment well in advance of date of first £12 payment!!) then you won't have to pay for next licence until Feb. next year as you will have paid for full twelve months.0

Thanks for the reply.
I assume that the reason that I provide to the TV licence people for stopping the monthly payments would simply be that I want to pay annually (or quarterly) from Feb 2012.0
