Yes, although I didn't know until now that that was what it's called. Actually, that seems to be a brand name, and mine isn't that brand, so maybe it isn't. Anyway, what I've got looks the same as what I see when I search google images for Sheila's maid. My house has a big utility room, so it seemed ideal.

I've only just got it, so I'm still excited about it. :o But it seemed like a very moneysaving sort of thing, so I thought here would be a good place to tell about it.

Sometimes called a Lazy Sheila. We have not once used our TD since getting it. 4 years!!

We had one in the kitchen when I was growing up - just called it a clothes pulley I think. They are very handy though but as it was in the kitchen we had to take the clothes off it when cooking anything that might make them smell!!

    What does TD stand for?

I've just been putting some cardboard in the boot of the car to take for recycling, and noticed the box that the Sheila's-maid-clothes-pulley-ceiling-airer-thingy came in. It says Kitchen Maid, so there's another name for it.

My parents hang shirts on hangers on theirs, which means you can fit a lot more onto it, so maybe I'll give that a go, especially when DS goes to secondary school and needs proper shirt shirts (IYKWIM) rather than the polo shirts he and DD have at primary school.

NSD on Saturday :) but gave in to kids' pestering and bought stuff for kids to eat on journey to see family yesterday. At least most of it was at Mr T and we didn't spend anything at any motorway services. Off to see more family today and tomorrow. Am going to stop off at Mr T on the way and give kids a budget each to cover all snacks for both long journeys, and explain we will not be stopping at services for anything other than the loo.

Yes. Tumble dryer makes sense. If you haven't used it in 4 years that's fantastic, grateful. :A I must admit I sometimes realise in the evening that there aren't enough clean clothes for us all to wear to work/school in the morning, and end up putting on a half load on a "wash and then tumble" cycle. I know, I know, not very MSE. :o Must try harder to be organised so I don't need to do that.

Visit to family was good, but moneysaving plans didn't quite work out. I'd given the kids a quid each and told them it had to cover all snacks for journey to family and journey back again. And then the people we went to see gave the children money, so they were flush with cash and spent it expensively in the services on the way home. :wall:

I've just tried to update my sig. I changed the date to say my spending diary is up to date up to today, and then when I tried to save, it told me I couldn't post links because I'm a new user.

I've had a play about, and it still seems perfectly happy for me to put links in a post, just not in my sig. I know we're not allowed to post links to external websites, but it's always been OK to post links to things within MSE, and I don't understand what's going on. Has anyone got any idea? ETA Apparently it was my misunderstanding and sigs aren't allowed to have links to within MSE after all. I've apologised. :o

On a different subject, I'd like to start using Approved Foods. I see you can get a reward for recommending people. Would anyone from here like to recommend me and get the reward?

NSD so far here. :) And I've taken a load to the tip. :) But I am not getting on as fast as I had hoped with tidying and decluttering the house. :o

  • Approved food seems to be good, but can bit hit and miss. My friend uses them, and always warns us before he dishes up whatever he has produced with out of date stuff...
That said, he did end up with a huge crate of sugary drinks even teenagers couldn't drink (it was hideous) and I think he ended up giving them to his enemies ;)

I've applied for a refund for the minced beef that was part of my shopping order on Wednesday. I got it out of the fridge yesterday to cook with it but the packets had swelled up like balloons and the meat looked very grey. It was supposed to be best before today, but it didn't smell quite right - not really awful, but not quite right, and I thought why should I put up with that when I've paid full price for it? So I went on the website and ticked the box for "poor quality" so we'll see what happens next.

I dashed out to the local Co-op to get some more beef before the people arrived who were coming to supper, but was good and went on my bike, so no petrol used. I overestimated how much cream people would have with the chocolate pudding (most of them opted for ice-cream instead) so now I have most of a large pot of it and must think of something to cook with it before it goes off. Any suggestions for recipes using double cream, please?

I'm just off out to the Co-op again. I need a few fresh bits and pieces, and conditioner for DD's hair, which I forgot to include in the order. I really must get her to wash it tonight, but it tangles so dreadfully if it's not conditioned, and we've completely run out. It is pouring with rain, so I am going to be bad and take the car.

My bank account has been feeling happy and well fed today - I got paid because it's the 26th, and I got my child benefit on the same day because it ought to be on Monday but is early because of the bank holiday. :) I've transferred a big chunk to my savings account today, and set up a transfer to put two thirds of it back again on 1st September, when most of the bills start going out. Interest rates may be low at the moment, but even so, 6 days' interest is better than nothing, since it only took a few seconds to do.
