Cat bringing home dead things

Hi,
I've had my cat in our new home since Oct. In November she brought me a present home, a dead mouse. We got rid of that and since then she didn't bring me anything else.
However, the past 2 weeks she's bringing home something every single day. It's birds, mice, frogs etc...
I'm not entirely sure what to do- if we don't take them off her she eats them and that is horrible to look at!
Anyway, short of keeping her in, i'm not too sure what the hell to do!!
I know it's all natural behaviour and she's showing affecting, but seriously... every day!!!
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Does she have a collar with bell? won't help much but might give some poor birdie a fighting chance, apart from locking her outside there isn't much you can do to stop your cats natural instinct , its the time of year when frogs are out and about , baby birds are falling out of the nest etc etc.. its just one of the prices you pay for your cat deigning to live in your home, cos she'll sure as hell find another one if yours doesn't suit anymore.......#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Get used to it - that's what cats do!
I keep some nappy sacks & a kitchen roll handy to dispose of the offerings (if they're past saving).
Wait until she brings it to you in bed!!!!!! :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
Most nights, my old tomcat (RIP) used to skulk home in the early hours with a small furry friend in his mouth.
He liked playing with his quarry in the kitchen. He would let the mouse escape so he could catch it all over again.
When the poor creature was growing lifeless, he would extend the fun by flicking it up the air with his claws.
When he finally grew tired, he would leave the mouse on the mat as a present for us, before crawling into bed.
One morning, I came down expecting to find a dead mouse on the mat but there wasn't one. I figured the cat had eaten it and thought no more about it.
"Kelloggs or toast?"
"Toast please", I replied.
Suddenly there was a loud bang and the lights and radio went off.
I rushed into the kitchen to find smoke coming out of the toaster.
We peered into the toaster and there was the mouse, welded to the toasting element!0 -

She does have a bell on her collar, we've made damn sure she has but day after day she comes home grinning looking like she's saying "mummy look what I brought you".I am a Mortgage Adviser

Mine does exactly the same thing. She also is not as fast as she used to be so if she brings a mouse in that's still alive, it runs off (behind the fridge usually). It then sets up camp and can be seen coming out at all times of the day and night, looking for food.
Bells are the answer for the birds but as for frogs, mice etc etc, just scoop them up and say thank you to her, its because she loves you!
(PS My mum's friend's tom brings in rabbits and can be heard banging and crashing during the night, trying to get it into the house through the catflap....)KimmyCustard :j0 -
Pm me and you can take monty off our hands, he'll bring you loads of goodies from chicken buckets to rabbits.0

Lol Thanks Freddie!
I love the fact that she wants to bring me presents but no matter how much explaining I do- she doesn't realise I much prefer chocolates!
She pops up at the window with it danging and I feel like being sick, then if we don't get it off her quick enough she eats the damn thing- urgh!!I am a Mortgage Adviser

Leave her to get on and eat it. Our cat is semi feral and great killer. She never been ill once her life and she must be getting on for 10 years old, it must be in part due to the natural diet she gets.0

In our first house, our cat was forever bringing home pressies for us - usually rats though (dead luckily), however, he didn't do it when we moved, but he had just started bringing them in again, unfortunately, he has recently died
My friend's cat is always bringing things in - I was cat sitting at the weekend and he bought me in a baby rabbit - although when I found it, it was half eaten!
It's a sign of affection and they are basically saying look, I've had to bring this to you as you're too lazy to go out and catch one yourself!
As said, it's instinct so there's nothing much you can do apart from thank him/her and give praise while disposing of the "pressie"!
A collar with bell may work, but they may try and take it off or you do when it starts annoying you!0 -
I'm thinking that the bell might not work as she already has one attached and it's so noisy you can hear her from the other end of the cul-de-sac, so attaching a fog horn might?I am a Mortgage Adviser
