Orville, your obsession flatters me greatly, as does that of dpassmore (or whatever he's called now), who claims to have me on Ignore but still checks all my posts and thanks anyone who disagrees with me! Seriously, funny ... :p

I am glad you are flattered. I have no obsession with you at all.

Just think before you post (or read previous comments) then you won't come across as stupid :p. Unless of course you are thinking that the OP knows she has had these loans and is trying to find a way indirectly of not paying them?.

ive also had something similar happen, ive been on incapacity benifit for 7yrs, my payment a fortnight ago was almost £40 less than usual,i had not receioved any letter or anything so i rang them up,they told me i had started paying back a social fund loan from 5yrs ago,i am sure i havent had this loan as i can remember applying and being turned down as you cannot get social fund loans on IB ,When i said this to them though they gave me an address to right to but as they say the loan is for £100 i dont think its worth it because buy the time anything gets done it would have been paid anyway, but i am certain this is a mistake

Then if you are certain, you should follow this through. You could be losing out on the £100 you shouldn't be.

Hate to say this but you can get a Social Fund loan on IB - namely, a Crisis Loan. Even employed people are not disbarred from Crisis Loans. It's still worth a letter asking for more information though.

You owe me £100 from 5 years ago, Although i can't prove this, I require full payment asap.

    Thanks.

Would you pay me ? No you wouldn't, So why are you going to back down and pay for something which you never took out ? Write them a letter explaining how you never took out the loan, And also ask for proof, They generally have to send you a letter before deducting money from your benefit.

Although i guess someone has to pay for david cameron's new suit.

If I knew id of had these loans i would pay them!!!
As quite a few people have said, mistakes do happen! they have been so far unable to provide me with any proof that i have taken out these loans and have taken 15 years to claim them back!!!

Isn't it reasonable to suggest you may have lied on the application? i.e tell them it was for a bed as that would give you the most chance of a successful application but then spend it on something else?

I find it difficult to believe they have simply plucked your details out of thin air and decided to accuse you of having these loans.

That said, of course there must be evidence to support their claim.

Yes, i could of lied to get the loans but surely i would recall the details of at least one of the loans you would think! I lived in a bedsit which was shared with at least 6 other people at various times with 1 mailbox so anyone of them could of fraudulenty claimed these loans on my behalf or it simply could be a mistake (it does happen!) and that being said, the dwp should hold some kinds of copies of the applications I made for these loans. I am not, as other people have suggested trying to wiggle my way out of paying them but i dont see why i should pay £368 for loans i may not of taken out over 15 years ago :(

    Car Insurance Carver!
you know years ago ( maybe even 15 years ago) i took out a social loan.
cant remember what i got it for,
i was in a bad place at the time as well
cant even remember if i lied to get it ( hangs head in shame) i was young....

i would like to think that i paid it all off from my weekly benefit, like they wanted but in the back of my head i am sure that i owe maybe 20 or 30 pounds of it.
however fast forward, i havent heard from them in ages and now that i am working its not a problem if they wanted their money back.
i had it, i owe it...
if they come looking for me tomorrow i would pay it without a bloody doubt.

For 1, you know you took out the loan, i dont!!!
    For 2, 20 or 30 quid is a bit different to £368!!!
and for 3, if they can prove i took out the loan i will pay it.

And im not ashamed of anythink i done in my past, it has shaped my future. I have a comfortable life, a lovely family and an amazing job. Fortunatly i am in a position to pay it back now if they prove i have taken out the loans as stated but i find it astounding that they write 15 years later and demand payment in full for loans they can not even prove i have had.
