Heat escaping

Does anyone know the cheapest way of checking heat loss from a house.
The Fire Brigade have an infra red machine but not available to the public unless your house is on fire :rotfl:

Wait until a frosty morning, or even snow is better, you can only see the roof, but its a good start.

Other than that, no I'm afraid

Windows, doors is mainly drafts, the good old candle trick should get them, or a bit of exposed sensitive skin :D I haven't got much of that, so I use the OH's.

Isn't it mainly common sense? if you have a very cold surface direct to outside, its losing heat. If you have single glazed doors the same, windows same.

I find a big heavy curtain in front of these sort of things helps, just depends on how much your OH can put up with your moneysaving :) He speaks from experience...........
