TOFURKY (meatfree turkey)

I can certainly PM you the one I use if you'd like it, but it's vegetarian, not vegan. Although you might be able to use vegan cheese. It also has an egg to bind it, I don't know if there's an alternative?
Thanks, I'll PM you, I'm used to subbing vegan cheese for dairy cheese and using alternatives to eggs, so it shouldn't be a problem.

LOL... ToFAKEy is even funnier than Tofurky!
:rotfl:
I've been toying with the idea of making my own Tofakey this Christmas, and if I do, I'll use this recipe... I've tried Bryanna's recipes before and they are excellent.

It's not the taste or texture of meat that is objectionable to them, it's the fact that it is a dead animal. I have no objection to eating a vegan product which emulates meat, as long as it actually doesn't contain meat.
Personally I can't stand tofu so would never in a million years buy "Tofurky" (is it just me who finds the name faintly suggestive?!!) - my holiday meal is a gorgeous Rose Elliott triple layer nut roast that I'm pretty sure is actually vegan.

Absolutely. I often use "substitutes", not because they taste like meat (which I stopped eating so long ago that I don't remember the taste anyway!) but because they're convenient. It's just as tempting for a veggie to chuck some potato wedges and Quorn sausages in the oven to cook while you're doing the canoeing/diving/school panto runs as it is for anyone else!

Unfortunately the name tofurkey reminds me of an insult used in my native suffolk, like sheep sh*gger but doing the same with turkeys...Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

It doesn't, is the simple answer.
Quorn is made from mycoprotein, similar to mushrooms. Probably about as similar to mushrooms as Bernard Mathews is to real turkey!
Personally, I adore a good homemade nut roast.
I'm not sure if you understood what I meant. Excuse me if it's me that doesn't understand your response....but, what's the deal with tofu flavoured bacon, turkey, beef...etc?
Surely being vege, it should be vegetable/pulse flavoured tofu, like mashed potato & onion flavoured tofu or chill & bean flavoured tofu.more dollar$ than sense0 -
I asked a similar question on another thread, someone was after Vegan mince pies.
Why do a lot of Veggies buy simulated animal products? There must be recipes that don't have to include pretend meat. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
