A recession is basically when the economy shirnks over a 6 month peroid.

no, a recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of the economy shrinking (or "negative growth" as it's apparently called these days).

the economy shrinking over a six month period is not the same thing.

you're right that -0.5% followed by +0.5% means the economy is 99.9975% of what it was at the end of Q3. however, that would be rounded up to 100%, and there is no way you can get Q4 and Q1 to both be negative figures that would not be rounded up to 0.0%.

One of the defining characteristics of bubbles is that they are very difficult to predict. That's why commentators end up looking foolish and why smug idiots often end up looking clever UNTIL the bubble bursts.

The housing bubble in China is pretty obvious. There is nothing at all constraining supply, and people are getting rich just by buying off plan and waiting. It's the classic pattern, the only wildcard is that we are pushing increasing amounts of cash into China which is sustaining the bubble. It won't last forever.

I don't predict a lot of doom incidentally. Most times things are not as bad as people expect, I usually plot a mid course. But I am very pessimistic about the far East, having spent a lot of time there (checking out mail order marriages mostly).

Sorry, but I said your comment was special, nothing of special needs?
I think any one on this forum knows
    A) I would not mock the afflicted
    B) I would come straight out with something sharp If I felt sharp.

I was being nice to you, special does not mean disability etc.

If it did how would you get to a Special Constables? is that a secret dig?
    This forum???

Of course your implication was special needs. Thats what special means in that context. Its used in a completely different context for special constable. Stop being so ridiculous.

Anyway, I dont care. There is no point arguing with you. You can keep saying what you want I dont care. I just tried to show you how horrible that is but you obviously cant see it.

Why dont you give china a call then? Let them know about this bubble. I am sure they have nobody of your fantastic intellect or economic experience helping them with their policy decisions.

Did you get out of the wrong side of bed this am or are you still bitter that Wills looked past you to that Middleton girl?

    Meaning of special (adjective)
    unusual; exceptional; unique; particular;

Looks like you have the hang up on special needs, it is perfectly fine you use special in the context I did.

I could of said your statement was %)$%£$U% but I was polite and wrote special. EG any of the above.

So stop rolling out the abuse and making out I said something I never. I found your statement bizzare, just like your behaviour on this thread.

Ye, ye, I know what you meant, so does everyone else. You meant speical as an insult, as in special needs. As I said I am done with this now. You can say what you want.

I can say what I like, cool.

Explain how the snow stopped a double dip recession then.

If you could answer that rather than making out I am some nasty man for questioning your intellect that would be great.

ps, Special was used to avoid an insult, If I said your statement was unusual it would have been an insult, thats why I said leftie about it as they use special for anything, Eg "aaa bless isn't he special for writting on the wall.
Where in my day it would have been "stop writing on the wall or you get a smacked @ss)

So the insult would be your statement was utter crap. You can have that or special up to you.

The economy was smaller at the end of Q1 2011 than it was at the end of Q3 2010.

Do you understand that this is the case, and why? If not there is no point continuing this discussion.

But you are assuming that the total effect of the reduced GDP caused by snow was added back, why do you think that?
'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher

If it helps any B Blank, I can confirm that you are coming across as a complete Wuckfit on this thread - hope that's clear enough without being potentially insulting to any particular group. ;)
