Hello,
I had to cancel the old Sky subs in January due to unforseen domestic rearrangments. I had a fairly new ordinary box, and quite an old dish. I am currently getting Freesat through my Sky system.
I cannot get freeview without a major aerial upgrade, and where I am the channels available seem very limited according to the website, which is putting me off considering the expense of upgrading the aerial for not much gain.
I would like to maximise my viewing options without too much outlay. I am missing programmes because I am dealing with my DS until 8 ish, and then when I am ready to watch stuff, there's nothing on! I'm a bit disappointed with the channel selection available on Freesat from Sky and with the advertised selection according to the freeview website channel checker thing.
I am not very technically minded, and have looked on other posts on here and got a bit lost in all the abbreviations
I would really appreciate some help and advice.
xx

Why do require to upgrade the Sky dish that you have that gives you Freesat channels from Sky?
What is it you are really looking for to maximise your viewing experience as you currently pay zero to watch what you already have. There has to be something on as you will recieve around 240 channels without paying for them.
You wont get anymore channels or any better channels with a freeview digibox - well no in my opinion anyway!.....You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0 -
You can also get Freesat with a straight box swap, but the channel line up is not greatly different from !!!!!!. However you will get the 4 HD channels in addition.
If the channels you want are only on Freeview, then you'll have to sort your aerial out-you are looking at no more than £80-£100 for a new one.
Unless there are specific channels that you want to get, I don't quite see how anyone can help you. If those channels are only on subscription, then that's what you'll need, be it Sky, VM, or Top-Up TV.No free lunch, and no free laptop

If there are programmes on the channels that you can receive but not at the times you can watch them then you need to purchase a recorder - Freeview or freesat PVR. Freeview will require your aerial upgrade and freesat for full functionality would require an upgrade to your Sky dish (change lnb to a quad - 4 output one - lnb is bit on arm in front of dish if you did not have Sky+ or Sky HD). Freeview PVRs are around £100 plus cost of your aerial upgrade and freesat PVRs are around £200 plus cost of upgrading lnb and cabling at around £50. Note however that freesat does not have the same channel lineup as FreesatFromSky and you would lose 5*, 5 USA, Pick TV, Viva, LFC TV and Motors TV plus their +1 channels. Freeview only has a couple of channels that you do not have on FreesatFromSky - Dave and Challenge. All this is ignoring the differences between the platforms with HD and SD as there is only one channel (BBC HD - not BBC 1HD) that has a different programme lineup to its SD equivalent.
If it is the channel lineup that is the problem then your only solution is to pay a subscription to Sky, VM etc.0
