I work at the store order warehouse. It's crazy at the moment. Taken on around 600 temp staff to cope. Roll on feb when everything goes nice and quiet
  • my personal favourite place at the mo is customer services..i used to hate it when i was learning it because im generally quite quiet and dreaded angry customers but i must say, doing CS has definitely brought me out of my shell more and no matter where im rota'd i always end up on there (specially now since most staff are temps so im the only one thats trained on there hehe)

i go through phases i think - when i first started i used to like picking but now i get too hot out the back so dont like it as much. i used to like pulling in delivery too but now theyre done at night so the porters do that and i only help out evry so often.

i did quite like jewellery for a while but our store keeps changing managers and teamleaders so i gave up training myself on there because the ED room kept getting changed around(i trained myself on evrything because our training is nonexistent lol). i know most things on there, i just get a bit rusty when ive not been over there in a while and its all moved round lol!

does anyone else like rebin? i think its great cuz i get so many hours lol. although whoever decided to arrange it so ones during xmas was stoopid hehehe
  • I always end up doing the jewellery rebin - nightmare little blue boxes being re-arranged on the shelves. In a previous 'life' in the stockroom I have also done main stock room rebin and my god thats hard on your body and our stock manager is very very driven to perfection and if he doesnt think you have done it to the impossibly high standards he sets, it gets redone - ive done a shift from 8am until 10.30pm just to get kettles right. And RACO is evil!!!

I was a Christmas temp about 10 years ago. It is a very tiring job, if you are put in the stockroom. I wish all the customers see what the people in the stockroom have to do to get their items to them. I was up and down ladders to get stuff. Then there was a secure room where all the more expensive stuff was kept and you had to get a key and open it then get the stuff and lock it behind you.

So after I had worked there I am always patient with Argos staff, because I know what they have to do!!
  • One thing previous posters didn't differentiate is the two different low-level jobs. Customer focused which is picking/collection/tills/customer services/E Duke/shopfloor which you switch around on depending how much you're trained and is during shop hours. Then there are porters - they never deal with customers and put away the deliveries. Porters can end up working out of shop hours - often til VERY late.

All the jobs are hard work and totally relentless when it is busy for Christmas!

I feel the opposite, raco is lovely. Most sections are now just moving stickers rather than moving all the shelves round (bar seasonal stuff) I now actually like doing 420's which used to be one of the worst sections to do! Kettles are a doddle, shelves stay the same, ro goes up and everything shuffles back. There's still a lot of sections that need changing slightly 634's should go into bedding. All the various media/ consumables from different sections need bringing together, fax machines should go back into office equipment, the raco names for toys need to lose the sexism/ageism and just be called toys 1/2/3 (a science set is not just for girls!!!)
OH and cat's should launch third sat in feburary and last in august. This would give us more time to concentrate on Xmas, have summer stock around for longer and get all the new products that are launched late into the cat's rater than having 500 nic lines!

but that's just my 2 pence

I agree now that we no longer have Index we have not got a rush to ge the new catalogues out. How many time do we have ppl come in for lines that were in the summer cat and the new winter one is out and we no longer do it and its still only middle of August. All ppl who work at Argos should send letters into the Argos Post asking for it to be changed. I mean its hard enought to find the toys now with the amount we have without rebin going on crikey we will never find them. Or where will we put the ro stock anyway top sheves are crammed with the excess stock
  • Oh the memories. Used to be a stockie then sales manager. Left about a year ago and am i missing it. NO WAY. But reading about putting bin tickets on brings a tear to my eye
  • they started RO-ing in my store!! Which is fun when you still get big deliveries of items that have now been put onto the top shelf!....
