is it possible to re-site manhole covers?

Manhole inside the house. Often wondered why Ben the rat was eating my food in the night.0

We have one in the middle of our dining room, it's a special double sealed one and it's carpeted over, you'd not know it's there really, only one inlet which is from downpipe and kitchen waste, it runs to another inspection chamber about 10ft away in the drive where the waste stack joins it. If done properly you shouldn't have a problem with it being in a room. Good luck, hope it all works out well!0

Speaking of manholes inside rooms, I will end up having a bolt down / double sealed one in my conservatory - courtesy of the insistence of Building Control. I agree it's far better to resite the chamber but "Mr Jobsworth" was having none of that.
In an effort to avoid the waste backing up to my manhole, should there be a blockage, I've raised it above that of the neighbours. So if anyone has a problem, it will be them before I get to hear about it...0 -
good idea. make it into a fixed dining room table.Get some gorm.0

I'm amazed that having manholes inside habitation is allowed. But you learn something new every day.0

ive always taken the view that its a last resort. most BC officers take the same view.
others couldnt care less.
they all read the regs/rules/guidelines in different ways. depends where you live. or if the local BC officer/boss changes.Get some gorm.0 -
Get it moved if you can as it will save a lot of hassle later on if anything goes wrong.0

I moved mine and bridged over it.
But yes, go back and view it again and look inside the chamber to see what goes in and out of it as the more branches, the more difficult it is.
Mine was easy as I am first on the line, so just my waste in and then out, but many will have others joining from along the line.
You then need to consider where it can go instead and bear in mind BC would not allow me any 90 degree bends to re-route it. You can have 2 X 45 degee bends, but this is more difficult and takes more space up.0 -
If the drain also serves other properties you may have to pay fees to your sewerage/water company . They charged us £330 to pass the installation of a repositioned inspection chamber on a recent refurb. job. £30 for the initial written enquiry and then £300 basically to look at it ( the inspector was on site for less than five minutes )Forgotten but not gone.0

I was slightly amused at the question. When it asked if you can move a manhole cover. No mention of a manhole, just the cover.
Anything is possible when modifying a building and its drains, it is just a matter of how much time and money you want to spend.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
