Becoming a house husband

Well, after 15 months of working in a job that I hate I'm finally realising my dream of becoming a house husband ;)

My wife is going full time assistant teaching, so I'm leaving my job on 6th May and will be a man of leisure. Can't wait.

Does mean I have to learn to cook, clean, wash and everything else but I can't wait - it can never be as bad as my job became.

Anyone got any tips?,

if you put the hoover in the middle of the room, and leave it running for a few minutes the exhaust fan blows the dust about so that it looks like you hoovered up (badly)

One pot meals are the way to go, saves on the washing up

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:- Oh boy! do you have a surprise in store for you!

my best tip would be to sort out a schedule for yourself (Flylady down on Old Style can help there) and try to stick to it!

Please post back often - I cannot wait to hear about all those hours of leisure you need to fill! :)

    Thanks for the replies.

I have one daughter, 6 years old so is now in full time school.

She's a great girl, and is pretty much very tidy. I will need to drop her off at school and then pick her up at three.

To be honest I can't wait, I've been working 13 to 14 hour days for the last 14 years so I'm sure I won't find it as tiring.

I'm even looking forward to all the budgeting etc. :money:

I know it will be a struggle learning to cook, but I've always been a hard worker and I've always wanted to be able to cook lovely meals.

Will be great for us all to have dinner together (my wife will be home by 4pm).

    Short answer - no.

Just give her 10 minutes or so after she gets in from work before mentioning that you're hungry.

Once she's made dinner, just casually remark that the house could do with a tidy up and you couldn't find a clean shirt when you got out of bed at lunch time.

    Start with Delia!

My dad became a house husband when he was 50, and had to learn how to cook! 13 years on, and he's now an amazing cook!

He also stopped wearing shirts within a week when he had to iron them himself, as he hated it! T-shirts are MUCH easier!

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I love the answers from the people with male usernames.:D You are confirming what I always suspected fellas.;)

Peter- get yourself a routine with housework and meals etc. If your finances are changing with an income drop, let tax credits know.

P.S - Are you the Peter that posts in discussion time about the economy?

I do actually have that book, got it a few years ago as I think my wife was trying to drop a hint - didn't work though!

Good point about the shirts - I'll have to see though as I'm not a big T-shirt fan. Definately a good idea re not allowing the ironing to pile up. Quite looking forward to looking after my two girls though - my wife definately deserves a bit of pampering.
