Becoming a house husband

I'm a HH atm, have been for a while. I have one LO at home and one at school. Me and my DS go for long walks and meet other adults during the daytimes, we get invited into other peoples houses and gardens for coffees and milk.
There is plenty I could do without him around, but I suspect I could easily fall into the trap of doing very little and getting up late if he wasn't here to give me something to do.
He's been playing in the garden since it's been nice, while I've been doing the growing stuff.
A structured day is the best way, but can be boring after a while. You just have to find what suits you. I have to be organised and when I took over my ways of doing things were done. When you finish your plate, you put it in the right place and clean any bits that needs putting in the bin. You clean up your own stuff or you find it in the bin, or in a huge pile in your room (or in the middle of the floor, pile the size of a mini, done that before
)
I've simplified immensely tidying up the house, I've planned ahead meals (mostly), I don't always cook, my OH sometimes comes home early like yours, but I always have the ingredients ready and the basic idea.
I hope it works out for you.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
My biggest tip for any one with school age kids would be "frisk your children daily" - there will be notes from school, party invites, news letters, payments slips, book diaries- all sorts that, if you fail to notice them, they WILL spring on you 10 minutes before you need to be out of the house in a morning.
It'll also save you several washing machines/ washing machine repair bills throughout their lifetime as you prevent rocks, small plastic dolphins, twigs and hairbands getting sucked into the washing machine innards.
And never "friend" anyone from your childs school on facebook- it's asking to get sucked into all sorts of drama that you really don't need to be part of.:j BSC #101 :j0 -

That 'frisking' btw is meant literally, it is NOT enough to ask your children if there are any messages / letters / homework. You ask this on the way home from school, then you frisk them once you're home, and THAT'S when you find the scraps of paper and homework diaries which they have just denied having.
But do try to listen to the answers they give you, and to remember that you've asked and they've answered.
By the time I'd asked 3 times, my lot used to get a bit fed up.
But by that time I'd usually remembered I'd asked, just not whether I'd had answers! :rotfl: Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
As long as you make sure you put the fridge/frozen stuff away it's perfectly acceptable to leave half the grocery shopping still in carrier bags to be put away by your wife when she gets in whilst you watch football on tv. I know this cos this is exactly what my husband did last night. Beware in case she takes revenge though, I am going to wait till I am asked to drop or pick up DH somewhere and only going half way.;)0
