My wife and i are going to Cuba in October and wish to take a credit card just in case of an emergency. Anyone have any tips as to which may be the best as we have heard no American companies such as Visa are welcome.

Firstly,
What kind of credit history do you have ? (Its pointless anyone pointing you in the direction of a AMEX card, Or other big lenders if you have a poor history)
What kind of credit limit are you after ?' You only live once ! Don't live to regret the past, But to enjoy the future '

Our credit rating is good and Amex would certainly not be welcome as its American.

I had no problem using my card when I went there in 2009.0

I used my Nationwide Visa debit card in ATMs and my wife used her Nationwide Visa credit card in shops and hotels last year.
As the OP already mentioned, AmEx of any type are unwelcome.
Egg MasterCard is unacceptable too as it is a Citibank product. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Visa Europe are an entirely separate entity to Visa Inc. It doesn't matter what type of card it is, what matters is the origin of the Bank issuing the card. No cards issued by Capital One, Egg, American Express or MBNA will be accepted. MBNA run most of the non-bank branded cards.Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -

Cuba won't accept any American issued cards. I am beginning to like the sound of Cuba more and More each day.
Joking aside my Mum, Her Husband and my Nan went there for a holiday earlier this year and they loved it.
Everyone was friendly and apparently they adopted my Nan. No trouble at all even when they walked down a street with people hanging around in doorways looking like they could be up to no good no one ever gave them any hassle.
My mums husband asked someone if there was actually any crime in Cuba to which the response was "Very little, you only go to a Cuban jail once".
Compare this to the so called "Free" United States of America where apparently 25% of the population has a Criminal Record and if you take a wrong turning you face a very really risk of being robbed and shot.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -

We've used Tesco Mastercard (issued by RBS) and NatWest Visa cards on our last two visits to Cuba in 2009 and this year.0
