credit card for Cuba?

Yes good advice above. I went to Cuba last year and had a great time.
Whether it is Mastercard or Visa is completely immaterial, it the bank issuer that is important. Any issuer with USA links will not be accepted because of the US/Cuba embargo, so MBNA et al will not be accepted.
The cards that we used were HSBC and M&S (HSBC backed, of course). For full financial information the best source of advice are the appropriate Tripadvisor forums. I gained a lot of useful advice from the Varadero forum, even if your resort is not in Varadero, it is a very busy forum that has great generic advice for Cuba and some good stickies, one of which is very comprehensive on money.

Joking aside my Mum, Her Husband and my Nan went there for a holiday earlier this year and they loved it.
Everyone was friendly and apparently they adopted my Nan. No trouble at all even when they walked down a street with people hanging around in doorways looking like they could be up to no good no one ever gave them any hassle.
My mums husband asked someone if there was actually any crime in Cuba to which the response was "Very little, you only go to a Cuban jail once".
Compare this to the so called "Free" United States of America where apparently 25% of the population has a Criminal Record and if you take a wrong turning you face a very really risk of being robbed and shot.
That's rather funny given that Castro (Fidel that is) emptied the Cuban jails and dumped the contents on Florida.
Cuba is actually a dump where 40 years of Communism has left the country bankrupt and struggling to feed itself. All is not lost however, as the Cubans have now apparently sussed that it doesn't work and changes are afoot.0 -

Maybe we should dump the contents of some of our jails on Florida.
Americas "paranoid" sanctions don't help the situation for your average Cuban either

The safety etc. you described is achieved through severe oppression. If the government here started doing that I can guarantee you would hate it - it may be nice to visit but you do not want to live under it.
Hence the US sanctions. Though I agree they are ridiculously strong nowadays. There are worse countries that the US has comparatively good relations with. And the new President is (very) slowly releasing the country from it's previous oppressive regime. Some incentive from America to speed up the process would be good.0 -

You have hit the nail on the head there. You are 100% correct, there is no way I would want to live there.
However I would like a decent balance in the British legal system were scum are locked away to rot for their crimes and decent people can walk the streets anywhere at any time in safety and prison is though of as a horrible place that no one wants to go to as oppossed to the holiday camp that it appears to be in Britain today. That is if the 876 year old insane judge actually sends the scum criminal there in the first place.Iva started Dec 2018.0
