What's the best way to go about this ? Seen a better deal and want out of the one I a
Hi,
I am currently a sim only customer (£15 per month) with Vodafone on a 12 month contract which runs until late August this year.
I would like a HTC Desire and have sourced one for £18 per month (x 24 months) on talkmobile with a free phone, unlimited internet and 300 minutes - it suits my needs perfectly.
I want to keep my number but cancel my contract with Vodafone and I realise that I will have to pay a fee (£33.10 as of yesterday) & also give them 30 days notice in writing.
What's the best way to go about this and in which order should I do things ?
Order the new phone first, ask for the PAC code second and once I have that transfer the number and then cancel my contract ?
Not really sure how what to do to make sure I get what I want with the minimum of fuss !
I am concerend that by asking for the PAC code and then transferring my number that Vodafone will cancel the contract with extra fees etc.
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated as I have not done this before !
BTW, I have been a Vodafone customer for 14 years and have been most disappointed with their retention offers that I will be quitting them 'come what may' !

Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

Hi, if there are still 4 months left to run why is the buy-out not 4 x £15 ? Anyway , the only way to keep your number is to request a PAC. The contract terminates if you use the PAC. You cannot transfer the number and then you cancel, the PAC cancels it. If you insistant about getting a PAC they would normally charge you until the end of the contract plus early termination fee and take payment before giving the PAC to you.-Good luck.0

Are you sure it's just £33.10? The T&C say: "you must still pay all the line-rental charges until the end of the minimum period".
Yes, They emailed me this figure last night - see below
"There is a 30 day notice period to be provided by the customer in order to cancel the contract.
If you wish to cancel the contract within the commitment term, an ETF (Early Termination Fee) would be applied. The ETF is nothing but the line rental till the contract end date. The ETF as of today is £33.10 and keeps reducing on a daily basis."
So, I need to order the new phone. Once that is received and working, request a PAC and then pay all due fees for cancelling the contract early - correct ? Or have I missed something ?Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -

I am not sure that it is 'plus'. I think the fee is calculated as all remaining line rental charges. You pay them in advance for the services that you will not use. There is no point in charging you extra.
minus vat of course
The op's termination fee seems about right, they have 4 months left, they are already paying a month in advance, so 3 months @ £12.50 minus a few days if they are part way through a month is spot on..0
