I haven't bothered to include the rest of the shambolic attempt by JL to fix the fault as part of the thread, which included losing the iPad for 10 days, never returning phone calls, etc, etc,....
Many thanks for all of the replies. I am just about to call John Lewis and ask them "nicely" if I can have a credit note instead of a replacement iPad.

Or you could also remind them nicely of all the hassle they have caused you and as a "Gesture of Goodwill" on their part ask if they would be willing to upgrade you to an iPad 2?

Good luck either way - lets hope they at least listen to your request.
“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”
  • Sounds like a plan.

But remember, that is purely down to their goodwill, and not your legal rights

I know....................I shouldn't be upset with them for selling me faulty goods..................................it's my fault for buying them !!

I wouldn't even know how to turn it on. It's my daughters.:D

Opposite for me. I don't get a look in on my iPad as my three year old is obsessed with it! Stupid Angry Birds!

    "birdies, daddy? birdies, daddy?"
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

    I'm sure its not personal.

Its also not their fault apple sold them faulty goods. But its costing them money to rectify.
  • John Lewis were absolutely fantastic. They offered me a full cash refund............no questions !!!

    :T to John Lewis !!!

sometimes its just better to ask the company nicely than ask on a forum for advice to be 'equipped' with the information - none of us here told you anything wrong in terms of your rights, whether you agreed with us or not - it was what the law states, the good news for you is you went with a good company for it and they saw you right.

Credit to JL for sure for going above and beyond on this one.

You have to remember, Apple will replace the device for JL, its not ACTUALLY costing JL any money to do what they are doing, but your refund request which you're after would cost them all the money they've been given for the device by you in the first place.
Not only is this nonsense - JL could sell the replacement device to someone else - but I rather doubt that there is anything in law that requires a customer to consider the effect a refund might have on a store's profits.

Do you believe that stores may operate a "no refunds" policy?
