Ive found the speeds ok on 3 i just got a 3 sim and used the tethering option on my phone. It was £7.30 and came with 3gb of internet. Was cheaper to just buy another sim when it ran out of data.
But what's the deal with adult sites :rotfl:
What is the deal?? Perhaps there is a content lock to which you have to call them to remove.0 -

There is a content lock however they charge 99p to your card but this only allows you access to threes adult site it does not allow you to view www adult sites.0 -
TBH you're going to strugle to good speed from mobile broadband (the 3G network isn't capable of producing those kinds of speeds with the coverage).
3G or more accurately UMTS doesn't scale well. It uses CDMA to support multiple access. This is noise limited, so the more people who are using the service, the worse the average performance.
There was a corrupt decision of the British government that decided on CDMA for the 3G service. Since Qualcomm was at the time the only manufacturer of a CDMA chipset, the company was guaranteed a fortune.
Qualcomm has since licensed its CDMA chipset to other chipmakers but continues to cream off large profits.
The better multiple access technology is OFDMA, as used by 802.11 wifi. OFDMA has higher spectral efficiency than CDMA, and sophisticated additions like MIMO to increase bandwidth
Technologically there is no problem with using OFDMA for cellular data services. In fact it is the preferred system used in Japan and China.
But we got lumbered with CDMA 3G.
Typical British Government! Yet more dodgy dealing! Bring back hanging I say. Never did me any harm.0 -

Please. This has nothing to do with signal coverage and everything to do with capacity AT THAT INDIVIDUAL CELL SITE.
I have full strength on Orange on 3G. Takes 10 minutes to load up Googles homepage. It is actually faster on 2G.0 -

Erm...they stated the speed was slow from the time they received it.0 -

Yes. And you bleated on about coverage which is irrelevant as you can have great network coverage and poor capacity giving horrifically low speeds.0 -
That's what you get for picking 3, and I hope you enjoy your poor choice of ISP as well (BT).
The only reliable network I have found is Vodafone (tested Three/O2 as well).
Minimum of 2Mbps speed and pings are stable and low enough (sub-100) for online gaming.0 -

Hammyman; Your post just looks like sour grapes.
This is clearly because I have pointed errors in some of your posts as well as your rather over excited attitude when dealing with someone who rather naively asked how to install a 'cracked' program.
You claim that I 'bleated on' about coverage, when in fact my post was a single sentence. You can see it here:Please. This probably had more to do with you not doing your research as to who had the best coverage in your area than anything else.
Whereas your retort covered two sentences. See it here:Please. This has nothing to do with signal coverage and everything to do with capacity AT THAT INDIVIDUAL CELL SITE.

In addition, there is an adverb and sentence modifier in my statement. That is the word probably.
So the poster had the right of reply to refute my statement.
Your [STRIKE]bleat[/STRIKE] statement contains no such modifier. You insist that the cause is capacity at that site, without having ANY IDEA as to whether it is correct or not.
Perhaps you can tell us the postcode in question, as well as the network used. Then we can put your statement to the test.
Of course you cannot.
My statement can be put to the test by the poster confirming as to whether they carried out the prerequisite research before purchasing.
In all probability, they did not.
I'm thinking that you really ought to take a rest. You are becoming a grumpy old man.0 -
Hello All,
I've had a 3 dongle [USB] for about a yr now and never really had any issues with it - found it fast and 99% of the time reliable.
However, the last 3-4 days it seems to drop in signal, as soon as the ickle world on the computers on my laptop which shows i'm online goes, it stops loading pages. The only option then is disconnect and reconnect.
Today, I had enough and phoned 3 to complain. The bloke on the technical help desk wasn't sure what the problem was as my connection on my laptop shows it's at it's highest and the local connection is the best you can get, apparently.
So, I shall have to wait until some1 from technical support rings me back in the next 24-48hrs. A little annoyed as i'm normally such a huge supporter of 3 internet!
