Is this a good retention for AOL?

Options
I've been with AOL since 2004 and had no major problems with them. I was paying £24.99 a month for broadband only 18 months ago and I gave them a call and they kept me on the same package with no changes but put the price down to £9.99 a month with 3 months free so I went for it as it was brilliant compared to what I was paying before.

Its now 18 months later and the retention deal for another 18 months is pay the same (£10.31 a month was £9.99 but now £10.31 after VAT increase) and get 3 months free.

So they're offering me 3 months free if I sign for another 18 months.

Is £10.31 a month a good price or should I be pushing for something cheaper or should I switch providers?

***I'm on 8mb with unlimited usage and I get the full bandwidth on my line and I've never had any complaints from them with the amount of data I use***

    Stay with what you've got.

Well thats my thinking too Sooler as I've had no problems. Don't want to sign up for another 18 months though if there's something better/cheaper out there. 18 months is a long time.

Like you said.. 18 months is a long time. Try and get them to go down to 12 months.

It's a good price but I personally wouldn't be locked into a contract for that long, not for any amount.

ElkyElky do you think its a good price for *broadband only* because thats what this is its not including any calls as the line and calls are still with BT.

Well my broadband alone is £25 a month for 10MB with Virgin Media so your £10.31 is a good price, especially for unlimited usage. I don't know how that compares to other companies but in comparison to mines, it's cheap lol.

Thanks for the info and advice. I will wait for them to give me a call and say that I will keep it at the same price and get the 3 months free but only on a 12 and not an 18 month contract. If they refuse then I will just stay out of contract which will give me the ability to change provider anytime I want.
  • Hi,

I think you may struggle with trying to get them to sway from the standard 18 month contract, but no harm in trying.

I only pay £7.20 per month (was £6.99 before VAT increase), same as you - unlimited and up to 8mb. But I also get free unlimited phone calls on AOL Talk Package (to 01, 02 and 03 numbers), line rental still with BT.

Why don't you try and get this package including calls.

Thanks info addict. I'm going to look into the bundle packages with the free calls. The only problem is that the phone line is in another persons name because of a debt from years ago I have with BT that I can't afford to pay off. So I pay the bill but the line is not in my name. The internet is in my name and if I told AOL to go ahead and switch the line rental and calls to them then BT might query the name difference. I do have permission to use the other name as its a friend who helped me out to get the line installed but even though it might not work because of the name difference.
