Charged for NOT wanting a raised limit!

I have had a letter from my cc company saying from 14th may, my credit limit will be raised by over £2000 and if I DO NOT want it raised I have to ring or txt their number. I just feel that why should I be charged for something I have not asked for, or enquired about. Is this common practise? or more like conman practise lol

If you don't want to pay 10p for a text, then just don't use the extra limit.

I'm sure you'd be right here complaining just as hard had you asked for an increase and they'd denied you one. You should be flattered, it's a rare occurrence to be granted a limit uplift these days, let alone just given one off the cuff...

Steady on now... cost of a stamp and an envelope? OP was already balking at the 10p it costs to send a text!!!

Maybe they can borrow the 10p off a friend or member of family and make payments back to them for a year or two?

I know this is a money saving forum, but how pathetic do you want to make yourself look?

Regardless, perhaps www.saynoto0870.com may help you find a cheaper option.

If it's a high street bank who provides your card, why not walk in to your nearest branch and ask to use their phone.

Or simply accept that an increased credit limit is not an instruction to spend and be grown up and disciplined enough not to use it.

lol, My point is if I am expected to carry this charge to NOT want my limit raised, how many more people are having to make this unnecessary charge and how much is this card making.
I know it sounds petty, but it doesnt seem fair for one who is watching the pennies! This is money saving afterall! :)

Right, so then don't spend the money telling them, and as opinions4u says, understand that an increased limit isn't an instruction to spend more, and simply take responsibility for your outgoings - don't use the increased limit.

    Simples :o

Who is the card with? Most allow you to register for online management and you then have the ability to send a "secure" message to them - you could then request them to not raise your limit or to call you back.

If you're worried about the electricity cost of doing this, then (ab)use your work computer (if possible) or try the public library.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

  • Is it Barclaycard? I got a letter from them like this but it said the text was free.
I have a deep burning indifference
  • This is very petty. So you have to pay to communicate with an institution you have a financial relationship with - it's not an unreasonable or extortionate expense. If you don't want to have to communicate, and pay to do so, with this bank, then don't have a product with them.
