    You can't add him to your 01 plate car though.

    No, it's written correctly.

    You can drive on an EU licence until you're 70 or, if you are within 3 years of your 70th birthday, you must exchange your licence after 3 years.

    You would then go onto the normal 3 year renewal cycle for the over 70s

    Not if he's from Northern Cyprus on a TRNC licence ;) then it is 12 months
