that's my point pigpen, it's a lot of pressure on them if god forbid you have an accident, I will also be getting a rear facing for my parents car as well, who will be minding her when I go back to work at the end of August.

Quite a few countries have it as law to be rear facing until 4, I do wonder why it isn't here?

It is utter carp to change to forward facing when the head reaches the top and it angers me why this advice is still dished out as gospel. Watch rear facing crash tests on youtube and watch closely what happens to baby, there is no throw back on the babies neck.

There are many good combination seats out there to continue rear facing, these go up higher than the first group seats.

Or britax fixway/freeway, a popular choice in sweden
  • Hi read this with interest, question I have 2 door car and currently my son is in rear facing seat in the front (no air bag). If I wanted a rear facing older seat can it work as not sure how I'd put him in it? Any suggestions? Thanks

It would only take up 1 seat so you'd sit on the back seat with him on your lap and lift him over into his seat I'd think.. I'm a bit neurotic though and would buy a 4 door car lol..

    Thanks!
(I have no front airbag, so the baby seat goes in the front).

When I had DD 7 years ago, we had to put first seats in the front. when I got my seat for my DS 6 months ago, the man in Halfords went bonkers and said it HAD to go in the back, so DS has been in teh abck since birth (and my front air bags are turned off, as I did tell Mr Halfords!!)

What a minefield of conflicting information!!

Its quite similar to caving :rotfl:

I found putting the seat behind the passenger seat and climbing in with baby, getting out is sometimes tricky.

There's no legal musts, but somewhere like Halfords will probably always want to install a seat in the safest place which is in the back.

Also a wee reminder to anyone turning their airbags off - make sure you let your insurance company know!

Getting them in and out of RF seats can be tricky, but only until they can climb in and out themselves and you only have to worry about the straps and buckle.
  • THanks I will look into it, unfortunately new car not am option as debt and babies don't mesh well!

Hi i have just come across this thread and have looked on the link someone posted. When our baby got older enough we were going to get him a forward facing car seat. But after reading on here and information on the link, it appears to be safer for him to be in rear facing. When the time comes what are the best rear facing, also where can they be bought from. There doesn't seem to be many places.
