What year is this S4?0

And if its always gone to Audis what service plan is it in on? The Longlife 20k one or the shorter one?0

The V6 Audi engines do use more oil than most.
We ran A6 2.4SE, 2.7T Quattro and other V6 ones and they all used more oil. The 4.2 V8 we now burble about in seems better.0 -
My A4 does around 1000 miles per litre i always has0

If it’s the Bi-Turbo V6 one then it does sound excessive.
Mine is over 200k and has only recently started to need a top up between the 6 monthly oil & filter changes so I’m adding about a litre in 5 or 6k miles.
I’ve also got the slight blue haze at start up but no alteration to performance or petrol consumption so thinking about possible causes……
Turbo oils seals: on the exhaust side wouldn’t get hot enough to burn it on start up, on the inlet side the oil would just collect in the bottom of the intercoolers. It might get misted, sucked into the engine and burnt but that would be all the time and not just start-up
Rings: Again would give the trouble all the time and get worse under high boost to say nothing of the performance/economy hit I’d expect. Also, no sign of crankcase excess pressure which I’d expect if rings were at fault.
So I’ve put the blame on valve stem seals/guides as the only thing I can think of that would only do it on start up.
On my car (’99 and 200k) I’m going to live with it rather than diving in and repairing although if I still have it when the next cam-belt change is due I might reconsider.
On reflection, even with all the cam belt dismantling done and the belt etc off it’s still two heads to remove, 30 valve guides to replace, 30 valve seats to re cut, 30 valves to clean up & lap etc etc.
Throw in a couple of head gasket sets and some new bolts & plugs and it’s a significant job in terms of time & £££ that’s probably not worth doing on a car of that age & mileage although this argument might well not be the case on your car.0 -

It's the V8 4.2 S4 53 plate - Im not on any audi service plan i just take it when it needs it and pay a one off payment, usually tells me on the dash when its needed - i do though like to give it a full oil/filter change every 6 months..
Had the miltek full system fitted last year but i don't think this would cause the slight blue smoke some mornings - im thinking it was the valve stem seals like vaio mentioned that some guy told me would cost 3k to fix.The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0 -
as it's the V8 one then that rules out turbo so you are really only left with valves or rings, a leak test will probably narrow it down, but to be frank as you are going to sell it anywy I'd be tempted to just live with it until you sell. I'd stick to the recommended oil
Valve seals still gets my vote, you could try one of the "snake oil" seal rejuvenators but even if it does work it probably won't be a long term solution.
Enjoy the RS40 -

Yeah i will see what Audi say when it goes in for it's service mate, im thinking the seals myself - looking forward to the rs4, it's the car i have been after for a long time, but since i got the bike i had to settle for the S4 - thankfully im getting a wage rise this year so im now "allowed" the RS4
I have a friend who has the bi turbo S4 like yourself but modded - those things can be made very fast indeed ^^The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0 -
