Car likes the oil..
Options
My Audi S4 avant takes 1 litre of oil every 2 weeks or so - there is no leak anywhere i can find, no oil patches in drive ever but on occasion i get a little blue smoke out the back not much though - any ideas anyone ?
I have heard some people say this is the norm for these cars but a litre a fortnight does not seem right to me..
Cheers

What kind of Mileage is it covering in a fortnight? And whats the mileage on the car?0

park it up for 2 weeks and see if it uses any.
My car uses 1 litre every 500 miles regardless of time. Thats normal for it and the range.0 -
The car is covering around 400 miles a fortnight and currently on the clock there is 96000 odds - it would usually do more but come the nice weather i tend to use the bike more, the car will be parked up for a fortnight next month so will c how it goes thenThe only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0

No smoke out the back while driving mate but as i said some mornings i first start the car i get a little blue smoke that goes away in seconds - it's just the initial startup i get that. The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0 -
If it's not leaking oil, then it's burning oil in the combustion process. It's got to be going somewhere.
96k on the clock? Time for an overhaul, sounds like piston rings at the very least, rebore probably.0 -

It's due a service june sometime so see how that goes - but that sounds like alot of money, just replaced the clutch and master cylinder 6 months ago after the OH put screen wash in the brake fluid then wondered why the brakes where locking on one day and rode the clutch for over 40 miles.
Anyways - just checked the drip tray and nothing much there so yeah like you said it's burning it.The only real security that a man can have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.0 -
VAG cars have long had a habit of using a bit of oil, even new ones.
The smoke on start up indicates some wear somewhere, probably valve stem seals.
I would expect turbo seals to produce smoke after start up, but I could be wrong.
You have to remember that an S4 has been driven hard for at least some of its life so you will get such problems.
I would take it to a decent VAG specialist, not some oik that changes clutches on the odd Passat Minicab but a proper VAG specialist like Amd in Essex.

Though there will be plenty of VAG specialist in every town or city in the UK that may be closer.
Be concerned about any garage that thinks an S4 is just another A4 though.
A mate had all kinds of issues with his Passat W8 and then his A4 1.8T Quattro all due to monkeys that thought they knew what they were doing.0 -

The S4 is N/A no turbo's - i have always had audi's and always took audi's to an audi garage, i wouldn't really trust any other garage to be honest - reason why i was asking is some guy said it could be some seal somewhere ( i forget ) but would be around a 3k job to do, whatever he said i hope it's not that, i just hope it's something more simple, i want the car good to go as im selling for the RS4 soon.
Also i thought of using a thicker oil but i would assume that would amount to more pressure for the pump.. not so sure.. the tappets rattle for a second on startup but thats happened since i got the car, im the second owner and i don't think the last guy booted it, i admit i have on occasion, well maybe a bit morebut it's been well looked after.
