Has a Womens Quiksilver top labelled Size 4 ever equated to UK 12?

I am annoyed because a dour Scottish lass has auctioned a top to my girlfriend (who is a perfect size UK size 12 and also looks the greatest in absolutely any Roxy/Quiksilver size 3).
The top was labelled size 4 but for some reason the Seller decided to call it a size 12 and did not mention it that QS had labelled it size 4.
My girlfriend won the auction and the top is great and exactly what she wanted, but obviously too big.
The seller had plainly stated at the foot of her few auctions to date (I think her feedback was about 20) that she had a no returns policy which looked a bit harsh but was not an obvious problem at the time of buying.
I have seen a number of size 4 Roxy and Quiksilver in TKMaxx for example at well reduced prices. (TKMaxx business is about selling surplus largely designer label stock that doesn't move quickly enough for manufacturers through other channels). I have concluded that there is not as much demand for size 4 as size 3. Similarly UK size 14 abounds in TKMaxx, but size 12 doesnt.
I have a suspicion that this Seller may be deliberately creating and then exploiting a confusion by describing something clearly labelled using the well known manufacturers own sizing regime in another size regime and making the suitability of the item much more uncertain.
The Seller can find many bargains in QS size 4 where demand is low, and then she can find many buyers for UK size 12 where demand is high.
Unfortunately she has been totally inflexible about it and even managed to find a size conversion chart in use by a minor internet retailer which backed her, and I cannot find any significant chart which backs my girlfriend's general experience on these sizes.
My girlfriend has given up and will try to sell the item herself (not as a size 12 I might add!).
I have a nasty taste in my mouth over this one.
What do others think?

I know nothing about this quicksilver label, but if the seller can provide documented evidence that her conversion is correct and you cannot, then I'm afraid I side with the seller.
I think your friend should have clarified the size before she bought it, especially as she knew that the sizing mentioned in the listing could not have been the sizing used by the manufacturer. The fact that it was explicitly mentioned that there was a no returns policy should have rung alarm bells.0 -
Item misdescribed....its not a size 12....follow ebay misdescription procedures if they wont take it back. Maybe it was an Australian size 4 which is a UK size 14.
Not only does the garment not say size 12, but it also doesnt fit a size 12.
I always state "full refund if the item has been misdescribed".illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Thanks Froggitt, you seem clearer on this than HairyHatMan who is definitely of the "let the buyer beware" persuasion and also seems yet to appreciate that foresight is a wonderful thing!0

What's the item number? Things may be clearer if we can see the auction.
But it does sound very iffy on the seller's side to me.0 -
Its 5361597020 VH, thanks for your interest.0

Why not email Quicksilver themselves?
Thats exactly what i would do. There's no arguing with the manufacturer.

Been to the Quiksilver site before ... there's no visible sizing data there is there? This is all academic now folks because my gf tells me she sold the top to a work colleague this morning ... dunno yet if it was at a loss or not!0

a size 4 is a size 14/160

On seeing the listing, I think you're right to feel conned.
If it isn't a UK size 12, regardless of the manufacturer's sizing, then the item is misdescribed.0 -
Agreed, completely misdescribed, whether intentionally or accidentally. You may have had a claim with Paypal here if you paid that way, not 100% sure on their terms & conditions.
Since the item's been sold on, the matter's academic now anyway!
Hope you made a profit on the sale - let us know!!0
