The wedding board is really good Katie. You can get lots of inspiration, especially if you are DIYing things.

OMG!! I get married in 2 days. I am so excited!! Last day at work today, not that I am currently doing much haha.

I didn't have any dinner last night as I was still so full from lunch. Breakfast was porridge and today's lunch is curry and rice left overs from tuesday evening. Going to make a roast for dinner as that will use up what is in the fridge.

Hope everyone is having a good week :) It's been pretty quiet on here lately.

Yeah, I am on my own this week, so got a lot of stuff to do, not that any I it is interesting. I really hope I have lost this week, but I'm not sure, as I didn't think I would have put on last week. Going to gym again tonight, then Friday off. May go sat morning before we go away for the weekend... Going to Oxford so will def be having cocktails etc (there is a cocktail bar there that we use to go to), so need to pre-empt the badness!

Yay I'm finally able to post!

I haven't been around much as OH took the last week and a half off work so I wasn't able to use his PC though I tried to keep up with the thread reading on my laptop.

I've had an absolutely lovely time though disastrous for the diet...lots of eating out, big brunches, LOTS of booze, cake, chocolate etc...I'm petrified of weighing myself because I think I may be back to square one.

However I'm not going to worry too much, because I'M BACK AT WORK NEXT WEEK! yay! I know I'll find it much easier to lose weight once I'm not sitting around the house all day. I'm on my feet 90% of the time at work (I'm a teacher) and I always end up working through lunch so I usually will only have a chance to grab a banana or something during the day.

Also, at my last appointment with my neurologist he said I should be able to start coming off the medication in 2 months' time...which is a huge relief because I know it's what's making weight loss virtually impossible!

So all in all, even if I've gone back to where I started, I still have ages to lose and I wouldn't change the last fortnight with my fiance - we've had a wonderful time.

Em, I am so so so so so excited for you and will keep everything crossed for nice weather!

I think there are a couple of new people too...so welcome! I'm daisie, I often post lots of inane nonsense and it's best to ignore me :)

    Hello All

I'm new to this thread but desperately need some help! I'm getting married next year in August and would really like to lose some weight before then to feel like me again.

When me and OH got together I was a size 8-10 and admittedly a bit skinny for my height of 5'11" but over the last year I have managed to put on a fair bit of weight and am now a 14. I'd like to get down to a nice size 10 and also do it in a way that is sensible so it stays off but I just don't seem to be able to shift anything and am putting on weight i think.

I know eating sensibly and exercising is the key but it is really though at the moment as work is soooo busy for me and OH and I have very little time for either of these pus feel exhausted all the time.

I'd love to hear any of your tips for diet success and also share secrets and support with people going through the same thing.

    xxxxxxxxxx

I lost quite a bit of weight a few years ago just going to the gym. Then stopped going.... oops! I bought a skipping rope and a gym ball and even doing ten mins skipping and a few toning exercises I noticed a difference. could you try and do some toning and muscle building whilst watching tv? Or perhaps look for a cheap exercise bike or cross trainer that you could do for 15-30 mins each night? Obviously you still have to commit yourself to that but it could be a good start? I've found just making a little difference to your daily routine can make a big difference, and if you do it slowly then the weight will stay off - that's what I've found :D

Yeah that sounds like a good idea. Gym memberships are soooo expensive arent they but just remembered I have one of those stepper things in the shed, I could definitely start with doing that a bit each day.

I also have Davina's 30 minute dvds. Anyone had much success with those?

Welcome myconosray, you will find this a very chatty and supportive thread although it can move really quickly during the day! :)

Your goal sounds very realistic for August next year, I'm sure if you take it really steady and just lose a little bit each week you will manage it without too much hardship.

I can't say I have any great tips as I'm not doing too well this time...but having lost weight in the past I guess my tips are:
    • keep a food diary, it's an old classic but writing down everything that passes your lips can firstly help you to identify problem areas, but also can make you think twice about eating something if you know you have to write it down.
    • exercise more - aim to do a bit each day and then if you manage it four times a week, you're doing well! I found that I don't like having to go out to exercise but if I can just shove on a sports bra at home (among other clothes of course lol) and do something in my own house, I'm more likely to do it. I know we're lucky as we have a treadmill, a stepper and a weights bench but I use an aerobics DVD more often than I do the other equipment, and you can pick them up dirt cheap on Amazon.
    • watch portion sizes....start weighing things when you're cooking until you get used to reducing portions.
    • I don't know if this is good advice or not, but for me, finding one meal out of the three in the day that I can reduce (not skip, but reduce drastically) helps. So for me it's lunch. I feel faint if I haven't had a decent breakfast and no matter how much I've eaten at lunchtime I'm ALWAYS hungry in the evening so reducing my evening meal is hard for me - but I've found that I can quite happily just eat a piece of fruit at lunchtime and be fine. A friend of mine was the other way round, she would eat a bigger meal at lunchtime and then just have something tiny (fruit, a ryvita etc) in the evening. She lost 4 stone!
    • Don't forbid treats - but try to make up for them if you do have them - so, if I knew I was going out for a big meal, I might do more exercise that day, or not eat much the day after, or something. If I had a terrible day and came home and ate an entire easter egg....I'd get my bum on that treadmill the next morning! lol
Anyway I'm sure others will have lots of great tips... especially johanna, she is a slim thing! :) and Em88 has lost loooads as well. Best of luck and keep posting! :)

I am using an app for my phone called my fitness pal. If you have an iPhone and can download it it may be quite useful.
I started by puttin in my details, then it gave me how many cals I should be eating. For the first few days I just recorded what I was eating/ doing, and was surprised how much over I was. I then started to try and stick under the cals counter. I find I am much better at estimating how many cals I eat, as I tend not to keep track at the weekend. But I think I am usually only over by a hundred or so.

We also have a weigh in Friday mornin or Thurs evening... Feel free to join in! :)
