communal sky dish

Hi all

I live in an apartment with a communal sky dish. I have problems with recording with sky+ & can never record 2 programmes at once (was told it's something to do with the leads & everything being installed before sky+ was available so needs some kind of update)...

Anyway, can someone please tell me if I would have this same problem if I got another kind of box or is it just an issue specific to sky?

Thanks :-)

You only have one lead from the sat distribution, to watch one and record another you need two leads.

This can be solved, but without knowing what the situation is at the head end and whether there are spare sockets on the current install, its impossible to state how easy it would be.

Thanks. I seem to have a spare socket but just connecting a lead made no difference to the problem.

Not sure about the technicalities but apparently to fix it all the apartment owners would have to agree to pay towards having some extra leads installed or something, which they won't all agree to.

Was just thinking of dumping sky but did't want to get another kind of recorder to end up having the same problem.

BT Vision? Or another freeview recorded? I don't believe you need two inputs as it takes the feed from the single lead.

Can't receive Freeview(BT Vision) thru' satellite. Need an aerial feed.
Is the second socket perhaps terrestrial aerial feed??

With only one satellite dish feed, you're never going to be able to use Sky+ as it is intended (Sky+ requires 2 separate feeds from the dish).

The best you can hope for is being able to record one channel or record one channel whilst watching a previous recording.

To be able to do so reliably, you need to connect your satellite feed to Input 1 and set up a dummy recording: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=43871125&postcount=17

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have freeview built-in to my TV already, which works fine, it's more the recording function I'm interested in.

What I'm trying to find out is whether the problem with needing 2 feeds for sky+ would also apply if I were to get rid of sky & use another kind of recording box? Does anyone have experience of using another type of recorder box after having this same problem with sky+?

    Cheers:beer:

Freeview PVR will be fine, sat PVRs wont work fully you will only be able to record what you are watching.
