I recently got my engagement ring made smaller by 2 sizes. It's white gold and I was told it could be £30 if they have to re-cover the gold (it could tarnish the way they do it) but they didn't have to and it was only £12, this was from a local jewellers. I was so pleased to get it back and you wouldn't know it had been re-sized.

i posted a while ago about the same issue. I lost 3 stone and went down 2 ring sizes.

I had taken my ring to be priced up to be re-sized and a friends father, who is an 'old style' jeweller said never get a ring re-sized if you can help it as it will never be teh same, the settings of the ring were designed to sit on the ring when it was made the size it was made.

I went to the jewellers (after someone here recommened a product - TBH i didnt hold much hope if i am honest !) and got a silver bar (for want of a better word) that sits at the base of the ring and makes it smaller. It was a tad uncomfy for the 1st few days ....but i remember thinking the same when i initially started wearing rings.. they feel odd if you arent used to them being there iykwim?

I tried this out for a while then i got a paltinum one to match the ring (thanks to my oh who was so annoyed i couldnt wear it he got one hunted one down for me as aa long term fix!) Its fab cause in summer when its hot (and you tend to swell a little espp on holiday - well, i do lol) you can just remove it or change it.

ETA i voiced my concerns about the device scratching the ring (heard horror stories) and was told by friends father, and the jeweller i bought it from that if it is fitted correctly there will be no scratching. I just checked my ring now and there isnt a mark on it :)
  • yes i also agree that after some time ring is not wearing in the finger. because size is change for this you want to resize to your ring for this i think average amount is pounds 30.

I used my friend for my platinum wedding band and engagement ring - his website is www.paulbattes.com
He was brilliant and you cannot even see any marks. I was very pleased.

Resizing should not affect hallmark stamps, or at least it didn't in my case (years back).
