When can you can change tariff with Orange direct?

Just coming to the end of my contract, and looking to change to a D500. On my normal tariff they'll charge me £49.99 for the phone, but if I go up a tariff I get the phone free. If I'm doing this direct thru Orange, do I still have to stick to the higher tariff for 6 months, or can I drop down after a month with no penalty?

I think you have to be on the new tariff for six months, but ask anyway to be doubly sure. Good luck.0
