Right, perhaps no one reading this or interested in Frays bentos perhaps too busy chopping down some pies but I believe have found the best and cheapest choice yet.

    http://www.poundland.co.uk/product-range/a-z/lid-safe-can-opener/

If you goto your local poundland store the packet is blue and its called
    "KitchenCorner Lid Safe Can opener"

my mum said there were 2 types she went for this and even being pensioner had to put some muscle into it but it opened 1st time.

I just tried to open a tin now and 1st time it opened it, it opens these fray tins at the sides so lifts the can perfectly no sharp edges or mess, this can opener looked good, nice clip and plastic part to hold/secure while opening tin and best of all cost £1

I gave up waiting 2 months on fray bentos poor customer services who said will send a info pack in 4 weeks time.... so dont waste time with them when it cost £1 to solve the fray bentos problem !

thought I would bump this thread with an update

The above £1 tin opener from pound lands failed... they were good at 1st but quickly after a few weeks it stopped working... my mum and sister have simply said they are no longer prepared to cook frays bentos for me;(

Cos they cant open the dam thing !

Gonna try that kuhn one for £11-12 quid.

Tried and tested and works fantastic on the bentos tins, once you follow the instructions which are simple and you allign the tin with the opener, you dont need to add much pressure or power... turned it once right round and turned anti clock wise and opener seperated from the tin and then used the side clipper grabbed the top off easily :)

While its the best opener ive found for any tin and bentos pies, only after a good few months or year will I know its 100%. Still it has swiss blades so must me very good @ 13 quid id expect it to last forever !

JML Hands Free, it opens the tins and there's a magnet that lifts the top right off. We have NEVER had difficulty with the FB pie tins, or any other come to think of it.

I got one of those a couple of years ago; best can opener I've ever had (though I know nothing of Fray Bentos tins).

Mine's now 20 months old, and still working just fine.

  • Anyone actually considered that this is fate telling you Fray Bentos pies aren't that good for you and perhaps you should eat something healthier?!
I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.

Could be. I've never even considered buying a meat pie in a tin! What's so special about them?

They are extremely useful when camping, caravanning, or during an emergency.
