Lets say 7 sealed units mist up and a door lock breaks. Ned and Den have gone bust. Who is going to pay for the repairs under the guarantee? Mr Moneysaver certainly doesn't want to.
Who is this 'Ned and Den' you refer to? No reason why an independent fitter would go bust any more than a big company0 -
anyone who uses a big national DG company has more money than sense.Get some gorm.0

There is no particular reason not to choose one of the "biggies" as far as quality is concerned. But as far as the price is concerned, there certainly is.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Everest prices are fantasy. No wonder they are worth over £200m a year!! £100m of that has been scammed from unsuspecting punters by gready commision based salesmen. When you rip people off to that extent, then you won't go bust will you?
Next door used them. Paid 4 times more than they needed to and their windows whistle when it's windy and are no more draught proof than the wooden ones they took away.0 -
Hi guys,
So we're currently looking at getting new windows and doors on the house as the current ones are past their best.
I've done my research and am disheartened to find that all the big firms seem to have taken a bit of a slating. Everest, Anglian and Scotia to name but a few.
I've had the first two round for quotes but as I'm a fairly cut and dry guy I didn't let them muck around. They were told they had twenty minutes to get measurements and get quotes and I'd let them know in a few days.
Everest come back with a 9k quote for front and back doors and a total of three windows and a set of patio doors.
Anglian come back with 4k and Scotia come out tomorrow.
It was good fun, the guys were more or less running around the house to get everything taken down in time! Highly recommend doing the same, I don't give a stuff about seeing samples, I just want figures.
However, as I mentioned, all these firms have took a bit of a beating in various review websites.
Does anyone have any genuine feedback on any known, reliable, UK wide or Scottish firm for this sort of work who are reliable and more importantly, accountable for their work?
Any feedback greatly appreciated!

There is a new web site that is free from adverts, which allows people to compare companies, how long they have been trading, their accreditations and leave reviews, good or bad.

what is needed is a % age of their turnover that results in complaints.......but they will never publish this information (but should) because they still only get a small %age of complaints.
Best advice, make certain the company has some backing GGF, DGCOS, BSI, VEKA, BYGONE, most of these organisations ensure their installers do as they say, and should step in to sort out problems if they dont.
sashmanBuying quality goods which last, should be an investment that saves money. :T
Buying cheap products which fail, wastes money and costs twice as much in the long run. :mad:0 -
Well so far I've discovered that between Anglian, Everest and Scotia there is almost no difference between the products on offer.
Apart from styling, all three companies have their own factories where the products are made to order.
Anglian has a 16mm width between panes whilst Everest and Scotia have 20mm making them superior.
Scotia give a 10 yr warranty on all windows, doors, fittings, etc.
Anglian do 15 on sealed units and 10 on upvc stuff.
The Scotia salesman was a lot more down to earth than the others and he explained a few of the tricks being used as by the time he arrived I was fairly well versed in the lingo having had to listen to the other two firms salesmen.
Warranties over 5 years are worthless he says, as if a door or window is going to go wrong it'll happen in the first 6 - 12 months. Poor fitting, faulty manufacturer, etc. So Everest who, for example, give a lifetime warranty on their sealed units are using that knowing full well any faults will occur in a much shorter timeframe.
All three firms are with the GGF and the big two have Barclays for their finance which gives double indemnity. Scotia leave finance down to the buyers.
Everest got back to me with a new quote, with a few thousand off it. Was quite surprised when they did get back to me as the guy tipped up at my house in casual wear late in the evening. I wasn't in and the wife wasn't best pleased.
Anglian and Scotia prices match almost to the pound, which leaves me wondering if there's something going on there, or if they are operating on genuine build / labour / profit pricing. Either way, they still beat Everest by about three and a half thousand.
Interesting stuff. I'm going to give CR Smith a shout and get them to come and have a look as well.

3 x average DG windows and a set of patio doors should be about 2200 quid.Get some gorm.0

That sounds about right with A & S coming in at £2000 for that package.0

@ Shaunearle ,Nearly every post you written since joining is to promote the website you mention, its a Ltd company and companies will probably pay to be listed on it so its not impartial.......Try looking at the site rules about spamming.....
