itunes hacked.

  • I too have had unauthorised purchases of an £11.99 Texas Poker app and also £5.99 worth of 'poker chips' from my account. Luckily I didn't put card details into iTunes and the money came from a free voucher I got. However, I have also contacted iTunes and hopefully they will refund me.
Just to let you know you're not the only one ... :(

Just out of interest, is that a typo, or something significant. Also, do you actually have that app installed.

No its their typo - which again didn't fill me with hope.
And NO I DONT HAVE THAT APP - THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!!!
Anyway here's their (very quick, after I threatened to go public) response:

This is Satish again from iTunes Store Support. I value the time you took to write to us about your issue.

I have reversed the charge for your in app purchase, which I understand was unintentional.

You will see a store credit of £ 3.58 in five to seven business days. You may need to sign out of the iTunes Store and then sign back in before you see the credit in your account.

Thank you for choosing the iTunes Store. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance with this issue.

The credit is back in my itunes account already so I can now (hopefully) get on with playing with my ipad (I have questions about that, which I'm going to put in another thread).
    Thanks for the support everyone.
    Take care

  • Never leave your credit card details online - buy gift cards and credit them to your account. Put £10-20 on and spend it slowly.

Or better still £5 for cheap apps and then buy a new gift card if you want to buy an album.

If you have no credit it really makes you think before you buy, also you are protected against large fraudulent purchases.

I would urge everyone not to have their card details on their itunes account. My daughter had about £15 credit from an itunes voucher but luckily didn't have a card registered on the itunes website. Yesterday she noticed that £11.99 had been used from this credit for Texas Poker. She never uses sites like this and of course was concerned.

She has changed her itunes password just in case and I have done the same on my itunes account, as well as removing my card details. . I would urge others to do the same. She has also emailed Itunes to see if they will refund this money.

If you google "Itunes texas poker" you can see that it has happened to other people, although it seems to be mainly in America. Some people have reported that hundreds of downloads are happening on their itunes accounts because they have a credit/debit card registered and they can't log in to stop it!

I've never had an issue with iTunes in years of using it. Make sure your password is secure, don't click on links in emails - go directly to whatever the site is instead and use a little common sense on which unsecured networks you use.

My iTunes account has been hacked too - to the tune of £560 in two transactions to iTunes, GBP - London!!! Spotted it a day later when I checked my credit card bill and spoke to issuer straight away so card stopped, dispute raised and new card issued.

I've also contacted iTunes support and they say that no purchases have been made on my account so someone must have stolen my card details - but I've not given them to anyone and the only place they had been stored online was iTunes (no longer though!). They also say they are extremely sorry but, under the circumstances, cannot refund teh charges unles they get a chargeback order from the issuer - is that likely? I've never bought anything on iTunes and I'm sure I would remember spending that much!

...such as iTunes. I really don't think this is something that's fair or accurate to blame the user for.

My wife and I have used internet shopping for over a decade with different cards and no problem, but iTunes managed to give my wife's card details away within weeks of her joining. There were fraudulent iTunes payments as well as Netflix.

You'd think iTunes would flag it when a credit card that is used on one account is suddenly used by a second account coming from an IP address in another country?
