I think it's a perfect idea, my Mom is growing plants and veg and when she has too many that are successful she offers them to me and my sister (and other friends) there is no difference in item from a shop bought one, but a whole load more love and thought in one that you have grown.
If only my darn flowers would stop dying I was planning on giving my Mom some that I had grown for easter instead of an egg!0 -
I think giving her something you have grown is a great idea, and how about an IOU for an hours help in her garden as well? There may be a few jobs which she either doesn't like or will be quicker with two.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

She's jolly lucky you're so thoughtful, such a good idea ! I am a bit cross at present: my lovely daughter getting married to very nice man on May 1st. I have just been to some trouble to organise a lovely present of very nice chocolates delivered monthly for his birthday last month, and what did his parents give my daughter for hers in March ? NOTHING AT ALL. So I think your thoughtful plan is jolly nice, and i hope she loves it.0

I'd love it, if my son's fiancee did something like that for me. For what it's worth, you might want to check out local car boot sales for a nice pot, as you can get good pottery ones or teracotta for about what you'd pay for plastic on the High Street. I picked up a fabulous teracotta planter last year for £3; this morning I've come back from the car boot with 4 large pots (one hand glazed, I think, and a bit 'arty' - really nice) all costing between £2 and 3 each - I didn't haggle, but I think if I had, I could possibly have got them for even less.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

What a lovely idea, I think most people would love that and value the time and thought behind it. BUT there are always some people who judge presents via their monetary value and no matter what you do its never enough. Don't get into one upmanship with people like that. I buy with thought and care within my budget if thats not enough then tough I am not depriving my immediate family for someone to have a gift they won't truly value anyway, nor will I get into debt for that. Defo go for it.
To Morgan could it be his family don't do birthday gifts? I was suprized by my OH's family who do not do birthday gifts at all, and in fact his siblings stopped sending cards so after a few years of not getting a card in return we stopped that as well. We send a card to his mum and Dad on theirs and flowers for his mum (just a small bunch that she likes)-but his Dad said not to bother as he has everything he needs and would prefer us to spend it on the grandkids as that gives him more pleasure than anything.

Seems a lovely idea, shows more thought put in (even if they are spares) and will last longer than a box of chocs or bottle of wine.
I'd be well chuffed.

Lovely idea. Firstly it shows you've actually put some thought into what she might like, secondly it shows you've put some effort into it and thirdly, you made it yourself. Compared to the above how much it actually cost in pounds and pennies is irrelevant.Val.0
