PC World

Options
This isn't a question and it probably isn't much use, but...

THE PC WORLD ADVERTS ARE MISLEADING!

I know a fair bit about computers, and I know for definate that PC World is a con as well as being misleading.

I'm just posting this to plead to you that you don't buy from them - it's expensive, rubbish customer service and they are REALLY misleading. I shan't go into much detail - but I strongly advise people not to shop at PC World (and I'm sure other techie people will reply here agreeing) as they just rip you off.

Sorry for being a bit of a pointless topic, but I feel that people should be aware of these facts: you should also know that the specialised high street shops aren't the only places to get computers from. Infact, supermarkets often run quite good deals on PCs but BE CAREFUL and do your research before buying any technological equipment.

Sorry :undecided

I'm sure people would prefer you to go into detail. Many here would agree with you, but the more evidence the better.

Probably better in the warnings, vents board. Although I do agree, I know a couple of months ago one of the TV adverts was pulled because it was determined to be misleading. The one about wifi laptop allowing you to connect to the internet "anywhere".

Does anybody know a large retail store that isnt a rip-off??? commenting like you have done doesnt really help anybody.. You havent even said what has happened or what you bought.. For all we know you could have bought the wrong printer ink and they wouldnt take it back. At least state what you think is misleading.. There are tight legal conditions on printing misleading adverts.

You are not pointing out anything knew and there has been many threads about PC-world and how thier staff dont know much... People would still buy from them as they prefer the fact the large store will be around this time next year whereas small retailers might not.

there are only two words that the consumer should always remember

    CAVEAT EMPTOR

    or

    Let the buyer beware

These words are at the centre of British Contract law.

You will also find that there were complaints against Intel and thier Centrino advert for the very same reasons

Don't forget online retailers as well.

Graphics cards are frequently advertised as being 256mb or 128mb and it's only when you dissect their fancy advertising descriptions such as "turbocache" or "hypermemory" that you realise the card has (typically) 32mb or 64mb *actual* memory - the rest it leeches off of the system ram.

So if you're running XP on 512mb with a 256mb "hypermemory" card, you're probably scratching your head wondering why everything is running so slowly!

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

I like the new adverts where they practically state that the new core duo processor allows you to do more than one thing at once. :D Thank goodness at last, with me here and my single core 32 bit processor only able to obviously open one app at a time

Their current advert gets me, the one with the baby in the push chair, who the computer will be perfect for, for when that baby does their school work.
    In 5+ years time
People will fall for it though and buy that particular model :o

I don't think I would ever buy another pc again (unless I won the lottery and bought alienware or vadim or something although I'd probably still want to mess around building my own) now I know how to build my own, I prefer to know exactly what's "in there".

  • Not that I'm one to defend the sheds, but have you just had a bad day? Are you getting upset just because they confused "memory" and "storage"? What do you mean by "misleading"? They sell a lot more than just PCs and laptops. Can one be missold a new Sims game, some blank media or a new mouse?

As for their customer service, how many people actually use it? Yes, they're more expensive than buying online, but which bricks-and-mortar retailer isn't?
