Unfortunately the TPS is worse than useless against johnny foreigners ringing you, these scammers don't give a hoot about UK law.
All the scammers know or care about, is that there are thousands and thousands of UK people thinking someone is looking after them.0 -
I hae unfortunately only ever had one "MS Tech" phone call; because I have never had chance to perfect my script;
"Yes I know I have a virus on my computer, I put it there in a sandbox to see how effective my coding is. Thanks for telling me I have a virus though because now I know I have to tweek it to make it harder for you to find."Signaller, author, father, carer.0 -

Hi,
I had a call today from someone who knew my name, and that I ran genuine Microsoft software, but didnt know my OS. I was busy so didnt speak long to the persistant person. She kept saying she was a qualified microsoft technician. Any ideas what was going on?

ive taken to asking them to wait a second while i "boot up" then put a bit of iron maiden on and put the phone on the speaker "run to the hills".
Good idea.Tell them you are booting up the computer for them [which gets their juices running]. Put the phone handset down next to the phone and leave it for 10 minutes. No need for Iron Maiden, the subterfuge of pretending to boot up is probably the biggest time waster you could inflict on them
I think with the above, all the time they hang on waiting for your computer to boot, you are hurting their pocket.Richie-from-the-Boro wrote: »I've used the same ' pea ' style referees whistle for two decades .. .. without apologies .. .. There are only two ways of hurting someone (1) pain and (2) money. I can't affect their pocket but I can inflict real pain.

I have also had this call. The bloke call himself Roger but was obviously an Indian calling from a call centre in India. Total scam. A lot of companies have used these call centres to save costs and now we are paying the price. Many of employees of these call centres are graduates - they are not stupid - but they are paid peanuts. It's no wonder they branch off into fraud.0
