I have the iPhone co pilot for US and it works a treat. Don't know how they do it for under £3

It's the economics of the software business.

Software has no intrinsic value and each sale costs almost nothing so you can sell it for anything you want as long as you are making a profit. It's better to sell to 10 million people for a throwaway £3 than 100,000 if you charge £30. That's how so many kids have got rich by charging 99c for iPhone apps.

thanks chocolate teddy that seems like a god recommendation. Were you worried then you wouldn't get it on time before you left>? that would be my fear, while trying not to pay for too many extra days unnecessarily...?

You only pay for the number of days of your holiday I paid for 15 days and they sent it out to me 5 days before holiday and I had 5 days after we returned to get it back to them without any additional charge. It was sent to me on next day courior so guaranteed to arrive when they say. Even when we had probs with the first one and spoke to they on the monday they immedately sent another with guarantee to arrive tuesday morning before 1pm. I couldn't fault them have a look at their website and give them a ring they are a family firm and nothing was too much trouble.

we have an old garmin sat nav (about £50) which takes micro sims - we were going to california so bought a usa sim (£40) (in the uk) to fit into the sat nav - used it all over california then when we got back sold the sim on ebay for £38 - we were looking at paying about £100 with the hire car.

    Hi there everyone!

Well I downloaded co pilot today and its amazing looking. As long as the gps is working then I sohuld be fine with it! have stored loads of locations that were all found quite easily.
Im going to buy a cradle and charger from somewhere for my iphone.

the fact it is finding some quite random locations is reassuring. We do have a guide book as well but the maps are a bit rubbish in it.

thanks for this suggestion, it looks great!
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Just wondering how you tried copilot on your phone in the UK if you only downloaded USA maps?

I have a Nokia and used their free mapping in the UK - it seems to use GPS (free) and mobile towers (charge) to get position. You can turn the mobile towers bit off, but it takes ages to locate you then. Is this different with the iPhone?
  • Is it possible to purchase memory card with us maps to use in sat nav
